About

Overview

Examination is a PvE horror shooter set inside a heavily irradiated nuclear facility that was converted into a laboratory after the WE-30 outbreak consumed the city of Menlo. You and your team are sent in to clear the place out, but the game is upfront that you will struggle at first. This guide covers movement, stamina, combat basics, healing items, enemies, and the achievements that unlock advanced abilities so you can stay alive longer.

Getting started

Check
In short A few settings and habits set you up for a much smoother first run.

The game recommends graphics quality 7 or higher. Playing on a private server is also recommended. Your controls are displayed on-screen at the class lockers, and they can also be rebound in the settings.

  • Set graphics to 7 or above in Roblox settings before launching
  • Start on a private server so you can learn at your own pace
  • Read the controls shown at the class lockers before you move out
  • Expect to fail early the game is designed to be difficult from the start
  • Press Tab at any time to check your current health and stamina bars

Core movement controls

Table
In short Knowing both PC and console inputs from the start means you waste no time fumbling with keys mid-run.

Movement in Examination covers the basics you expect plus a few actions that are easy to miss. On PC you can also lean left and right, which console does not currently support. Crouching lets you pass through low passages on both platforms.

MoveWASD on PC, left stick on console
Lean left/rightQ and E on PC, not mapped on console
CrouchC or Left Ctrl on PC, a face button on console
SprintShift on PC, a face button on console
Tactical sprintdouble-tap then hold the sprint button on either platform
Resetonly available after standing completely still for 10 seconds

Stamina and sprinting

Summary
In short Managing stamina is the difference between reaching cover and getting caught in the open.

Sprinting, tactical sprinting, and sliding all drain your stamina bar. Once the bar empties your character becomes exhausted and cannot sprint, tactical sprint, or slide until it recovers. Stamina refills on its own over time, and while exhausted the regeneration rate is doubled. It takes roughly 23 seconds for stamina to recover from near zero under normal conditions.

  • Tactical sprint speed boost 24% increase over regular sprint
  • Tactical sprint duration 5 seconds before it ends automatically
  • Tactical sprint cooldown none, but stamina still drains
  • Exhausted state blocks sprinting, tactical sprinting, and sliding until bar refills
  • Stamina recovery while exhausted doubled compared to normal recovery rate
05

Leaning around cover

Tips
In short Leaning is your main tool for trading shots with armed enemies without fully exposing yourself.

Peeking around a wall shifts your gun to one side so you can aim and fire while keeping most of your body protected. It is most effective when you are fighting enemies that shoot back.

Tips worth knowing
  • Your weapon shifts with your body, so you can still shoot while leaning
  • Leaning is most valuable against gun-carrying enemies
06

ONE-MAN-ARMY actions

Step
In short Unlocking the ONE-MAN-ARMY achievement opens a set of aggressive movement options that change how you push through the facility.

Several actions in Examination are locked behind the ONE-MAN-ARMY achievement, earned by completing the game solo on a private server with no one joining at any point — your run does not have to be deathless. Once you have it, you gain sliding, door bashing, a shoulder-check, and night vision.

  1. Slide sprint first, then press the slide key; the slide decays in about 1.2 seconds and has a 10-second cooldown between uses
  2. Door bash tactical sprint directly into a compatible door to ram it open; it closes again automatically after 5 seconds
  3. Shoulder-check make contact with an enemy while tactical sprinting to ragdoll them briefly
  4. Night vision toggle with N; battery lasts 2 minutes, takes 15 seconds to fully recharge after draining, and color can be switched between white and green with H
  5. Night vision on Classless requires the separate LAB_ASSISTANT achievement, not ONE-MAN-ARMY alone
07

Healing items

Tips
In short Each healing item fills a different role, so carry what fits your situation rather than always grabbing the same one.

Three main healing items appear in Examination, each with its own rules. Health regenerates on its own up to 70 HP at a rate of 1 HP every 5 seconds, but above 70 HP natural regeneration stops, making items essential for topping off.

Tips worth knowing
  • LNX-02 Combat Wrap has 2 charges: the first heals 35 HP, the second heals 25 HP
  • VIREL-M MedUnit has infinite charges and heals 45 HP per use, with a 25-second cooldown on yourself and a shorter 15-second cooldown when healing a teammate — the two cooldowns are tracked separately
  • To heal a teammate with the VIREL-M, hold right-click then left-click on PC, or hold left trigger then press right trigger on console
  • Adminstal carries three vials — Bliss heals 50 HP, Haste increases your movement speed by 30%, and Strength gives 50% damage resistance — press R to cycle between them
  • You can only have one Adminstal vial active at a time; wait for the current effect to wear off before using the next
  • Players who chose the Infected (CI) faction cannot pick up Adminstals
08

Achievements that unlock progression

Step
In short Several achievements do more than mark progress — they open classes, abilities, and rank upgrades that meaningfully change what you can do.

Completing the game solo on a private server is the gateway to the most important ability unlocks. Each solo run must have no other players join at any point, but none of them require a deathless run unless stated. Reach the Sector 3 entrance to trigger completion.

  1. ONE-MAN-ARMY complete the game solo (private server) to unlock sliding, night vision, door bashing, and a rank upgrade
  2. VETERAN-OF-PURGATORY complete the game without dying to unlock the Leader class and a rank upgrade; this one can be done on a public server, so join a fresh server if you die
  3. UNDEREQUIPPED complete the game solo (private server) without selecting a class to unlock the Special-Forces classes and a rank upgrade; described as ridiculously hard
  4. LOST_COMMAND complete the game solo (private server) as the Leader class for a rank upgrade
  5. THE_POINTMAN kill Gilbert for a rank upgrade
  6. THE_JUGGERNAUT kill SIN for a rank upgrade
09

Side quests and their rewards

Tips
In short Side quests hand out weapons and a new class that you cannot get any other way, so they are worth pursuing once you know the map.

Several NPCs in the facility offer quests with permanent rewards. Antonio's quests are random each time, and you get one free reroll per quest.

Tips worth knowing
  • Carlos Delgado — kill 15 Shielders (you just need to deal damage, not the killing blow) to unlock the Enforcer class, which comes with a ballistic shield, beanbag shotgun, flashbangs, and the TASC-10
  • Antonio De La Cruz — complete randomly assigned tasks such as killing 15 infected, executing 3 infected with melee, finding a spoon near Gilbert's spawn, gathering samples from 2 of 3 barrels in Sector 1, or retrieving a wrench and compass from Sector 1; each completion awards one of four contraband weapons including the AEN-50, KS-23, RSH-12, or Stormbreaker revolver
  • Manhattan Ristretto — collect a Geiger counter from her, then retrieve a Xenon Crystal from Sector 2 (it damages you while carried), a document from Sector 3, and a gamma crystal from the Sector 1 basement; finishing all three earns a Medal of Appreciation cosmetic
  • Leaving Manhattan's quest chain forces you to restart all three missions from the beginning, but dying only resets the current mission item
  • The AEN-50 can also drop from Sector 3 weapon crates at a 2.5% chance if you do not want to wait for Antonio's quest

Glossary

Glossary
WE-30
The outbreak that infected the city of Menlo and turned the nuclear facility into the hostile laboratory you are sent to clear.
Tactical sprint
A faster burst of movement triggered by double-tapping the sprint button; it increases speed by 24% and lasts up to 5 seconds with no cooldown.
Exhausted
The state your character enters when stamina runs out, preventing all forms of sprinting and sliding until the bar recovers, at which point regeneration speed doubles.
ONE-MAN-ARMY
An in-game achievement earned by completing the game solo on a private server; it unlocks sliding, door bashing, shoulder-checks, and night vision.
Lean
A movement option that lets you peek and shoot around a corner while keeping most of your body behind cover.
Classless
The default character option that lacks a goggle mount; night vision requires the LAB_ASSISTANT achievement rather than ONE-MAN-ARMY to work on this option.
Infection
A mechanic triggered when your HP drops below 10, giving you 2 minutes before your character is taken over by a viral enemy.
Enforcer
A class unlocked by completing Carlos Delgado's quest; it is built around a ballistic shield that blocks incoming damage.
NVGs
Night vision goggles with a 2-minute battery that recharge in 15 seconds after fully depleting; color toggles between white and green with H.

Common questions

FAQ

Why can't I slide even though I'm sprinting?

Sliding requires the ONE-MAN-ARMY achievement before it becomes available. If you have the achievement, check whether the slide is still on its 10-second cooldown from your last one.

Does tactical sprint cost more stamina than regular sprint?

Both regular and tactical sprinting drain stamina, and tactical sprint does drain slightly more. Tactical sprint ends on its own after 5 seconds, but it has no cooldown, so you can chain bursts of it as long as your stamina holds out.

Is it worth playing on a private server?

The game itself recommends it. Examination is described as challenging and expects players to fail early, and a private server lets you learn at your own pace. Several achievements, including ONE-MAN-ARMY and UNDEREQUIPPED, also specifically require a private server with no one joining.

Can I use night vision if I pick Classless?

Not with ONE-MAN-ARMY alone. Classless characters need the separate LAB_ASSISTANT achievement to use night vision, which adds a unique goggle model to the classless appearance that can be turned off in settings.

What happens if I let my health drop below 10?

Your gas mask visor cracks and you become infected, giving you 2 minutes before you lose control of your character entirely. Symptoms escalate over that time, including reddening vision and strange noises, so use healing items immediately if you hit that threshold.

Do I have to complete Antonio's quests in a set order?

No — his quests are assigned at random, and the same quest will not appear twice in a row. You get one free reroll per quest, which resets after you complete the new one. If you already hold all four contraband weapons, Antonio will hold any further rewards and stop giving you new missions until you clear space.
