Your first call, step by step
StepEvery run starts with a 911 call. You pick a truck, race to the scene with sirens going, and work the fire until it is out and anyone trapped is carried to safety. Completing one full call from start to finish earns you the First Alarm badge.
- Force entry use your axe or chainsaw to break down locked doors so you can get inside.
- Stretch a hose line pull the hose out and aim it at the fire to start knocking it down.
- Mask up put your mask on before moving through heavy smoke so you can keep working.
- Carry out victims if someone is still inside, bring them out alive to work toward the Lifesaver badge.
Fire types and the right equipment
TableOak Ridge throws more than 20 different scenarios at you. Matching your equipment to the fire type is what separates a clean knockdown from a drawn-out battle.
| House, apartment, and office fires | hose lines and forced entry with an axe or chainsaw. |
| Brush fires | brush trucks cover the wide outdoor terrain these calls demand. |
| Car fires | a standard engine with a hose line handles the job. |
| Plane crashes at the airport | large-scale scenes that call for multiple trucks and crew. |
| Building searches | bring your K9 partner to track down victims inside a burning structure. |
| High-rise or elevated fires | a ladder tower puts water where a ground-level hose cannot reach. |
