About

Overview

Block Tales Battle Simulator (BTBS) lets you build a custom character, pick any enemies you want, and test battles from the Block Tales RPG in a sandbox setting. This guide covers how to get started, how to work toward the game's ten badges, and what restrictions to watch for so you do not disqualify yourself mid-run.

Getting a battle running

Step
In short Three setup steps stand between you and your first custom fight.

BTBS gives you full control before the battle starts. Set everything up carefully, because some badge requirements check your configuration the moment the fight begins.

  1. Build your character choose a level and equip whichever badges you want for this run.
  2. Configure the enemy pick the enemy or enemies you want to face and adjust their settings in the edit menu.
  3. Start the battle once configuration matches your goal, launch the fight.

Common restrictions that disqualify badge runs

Check
In short Most failed badge attempts come down to one overlooked restriction, so run through this list before every serious attempt.

Several badges share the same banned items or caps. Knowing the pattern saves you from restarting runs repeatedly.

  • Custom Cards are banned for Boss Rush, Peak Performance, Who's The Champion Now?, Hardest Hits, and A Deprecated Body.
  • Developer Items are banned for Boss Rush, Peak Performance, Who's The Champion Now?, and Hardest Hits.
  • Feel Fine is banned for Who's The Champion Now?, Hardest Hits, and A Deprecated Body.
  • BP is capped at 30 for Boss Rush and A Deprecated Body.
  • Level is capped at 24 for Boss Rush.
  • Hard Mode must be equipped by every player in the party for Hardest Hits one person missing it makes the badge unobtainable.
03

The two Price Paid in Full badges

Table
In short The Strict version has a much longer ruleset than the original, and breaking any rule in the Strict list drops you to the original badge instead.

Both badges involve beating Tutorial Terry, but the conditions are very different. If you violate a Strict-only rule, you win the original badge rather than nothing, so the attempt is never a total loss.

Original versionkill Terry without editing his HP, moveset, or damage multiplier in the edit menu.
Strict versionall of the above, plus: damage multiplier must be at least 1, HP cannot be set below 1 million (500k in a four-player lobby), no more than four enemies total, Terry cannot have a status weakness changed or an item given to him, and ten specific status effects cannot be pre-applied through the menu.
Summon rule (Strict only)you cannot spawn with a summon already active, though you can summon one after the battle starts.
Official hint for bothmax out your summon's damage multiplier and apply the Concentration effect at its maximum level.
Clicking the edit button next to any of Terry's moves locks the Strict badge for that sessiondelete him and re-add him to reset this.
04

Badges that require another badge first

Warn
In short You must earn Clocked Out Permanently before the game will let you attempt either of its two follow-up badges.

Two of the hardest badges in the game are gated behind Clocked Out Permanently. There is no way around this order.

Worth watching out for
Earn Clocked Out Permanently by defeating the Board Members before you try Who's The Champion Now? or Hardest Hits.
Who's The Champion Now? adds a Defense Cap of +2 and a Safe Guard Cap of +2 factor this into your build before the fight.
Hardest Hits uses the same caps and bans as Who's The Champion Now?, then adds the requirement that every party member has Hard Mode equipped.
05

Boss Rush preparation

Summary
In short Boss Rush forces you into a tightly capped build, so set your character to the legal limits before you queue.

Boss Rush is one of the more structured challenges in BTBS because it enforces hard numerical caps.

  • Level cap 24 maximum
  • BP cap 30 maximum
  • Custom Cards banned entirely
  • Developer Items banned entirely

Common questions

FAQ

What happens if I break one of the Strict rules when fighting Tutorial Terry?

You will earn the original Price Paid in Full badge instead of the Strict version. The run is not wasted, but you will need a clean attempt to get the Strict badge.

Can I attempt Who's The Champion Now? right away?

No. You need the Clocked Out Permanently badge first, which you earn by defeating the Board Members.

What does completing the Outrageous Battle give me?

You receive the Outrageous Battle badge and the battle's theme is added to the Jukebox.

Is BTBS an official Block Tales or ROLVe product?

No. The game states it has no affiliation with the Block Tales or ROLVe developers. It is an independent sandbox built purely for testing custom battles.
