How the aliens hunt you

Summary
In short Sound is the only thing that puts you in danger, so controlling noise is the entire game.

The extraterrestrial creatures in Cold Spring cannot be fooled by sight — they rely entirely on hearing. Any noise you make, whether moving or using items, draws them straight to the source. Once they pinpoint your location they will move toward it and attack. Understanding this single rule shapes every decision you make from the moment you spawn.

Item use interacting with objects produces sound that attracts aliens
Alert state creatures home in on the exact spot where noise was made
Cooperation playing with others spreads risk and improves your chances of surviving

Common questions

FAQ

What happens if I make noise?

The aliens hear the sound and move directly toward the spot where it came from. Your best options are to hide immediately or move away quietly before they arrive.

Can I play this by myself?

Yes, solo play is supported. That said, the game is designed around cooperation, so playing with friends makes surviving noticeably easier.

Is it safe to quit mid-game?

Only if the danger indicator is not showing. Leaving while that symbol is on screen will wipe your saved session entirely, so always wait until you are out of danger before you exit.
