About

Overview

Dye of Deaf (also called DyD) is a parody of Die of Death where one or two killers chase up to twelve civilians each round. Civilians pick ability cards to survive, while killers use their own moves to hunt them down. This guide covers how to pick cards, play each killer, handle map hazards, and earn points.

Card selection at round start

Step
In short Pick your card fast, because the game chooses for you after about ten seconds.

When a round begins as a civilian, you get three cards and roughly ten seconds to choose one. Each card holds two abilities. If you let the timer run out, the leftmost card is selected automatically, so glance at all three before the clock runs down.

  1. Check all three cards look at both abilities on each one before committing, since a good pairing can unlock a combo.
  2. Spot combo cards if two abilities on a card are a combo pair, the card appears black on the selection screen, signalling a stat change.

Civilian ability reference

Combo cards worth knowing

Table
In short Combo cards change your stats and abilities significantly, so knowing which pairs trigger them is useful.

When two specific abilities appear together on one card, a combo activates. The card turns black on the selection screen. Each combo shifts your HP and stamina differently.

Loveshot (Revolver + Caretaker)less HP and stamina, but you heal on every shot that lands
Carepad (Bonuspad + Caretaker)your pad heals visitors at 1 HP roughly every 0.5 seconds, with a lingering heal after they step off
Punchpad (Bonuspad + Punch)your pad flings anyone who touches it; killers get launched into the sky; deals 3 damage per use
Techdash (Taunt + Dash)dash works offensively like Taunt; you get 50 HP and 50 stamina
InvisTaunt (Cloak + Taunt)taunting turns you invisible for about 4 seconds, though the killer stays enraged even after invisibility fades
PunchBlock (Punch + Block)gives 85 HP and 135 stamina; additional effects have not been discovered yet

Playing Pursued

Tips
In short Pursued is the fastest killer in the game and the only one faster than civilians.

Pursued is the starting killer and costs no points to unlock. He has four abilities: Swing, Cleave, Howl, and Stalk.

Tips worth knowing
  • Use Cleave when your stamina is nearly gone — the lunge gives you a last burst of speed toward the target.
  • Use Howl when stamina is low or empty — it locks nearby civilians into a slow for 6 seconds while your stamina refills.
  • Activate Stalk to go invisible and silence your chase music — civilians lose their audio warning, and you can land a backstab without breaking invisibility first.
  • Cleave also inflicts Bleed, dealing 10 damage over 10 seconds and revealing the hit civilian's location for the bleed duration.
  • Civilians using Block can actually fling you if they block your Bleed damage, since the game treats that damage as coming from you.
05

Playing Badwear

Tips
In short Badwear gets stronger the more computers he places.

Badwear costs 1337 points. His power comes from Firewall Bypass, which places computers that increase his speed and boost his damage output. Rift lets him teleport to the most recently placed computer for a quick reposition.

Tips worth knowing
  • Each computer you are near adds 5 extra damage to your M1.
  • After using Rift to teleport to a computer, you get a short speed boost.
  • Collecting 10 computers earns the World Domination badge.
06

Playing Deafdroid

Tips
In short Deafdroid rewards card accumulation because three or more cards unlock the Killbot.

Deafdroid costs 1300 points. Rocket Shoot lets him attack from range. Cards are gained by punching after every third rocket volley, or by landing the Parry jump on a civilian.

Tips worth knowing
  • Use Dash to close in quickly, but avoid hitting a wall — doing so deals 20 damage to yourself.
  • Using one or two cards only gives a speed boost; three or more cards spawn a Killbot.
  • The Killbot homes in on players automatically and explodes for 30 damage on contact.
  • Civilians can counter a Killbot with Taunt, Punch, or Revolver.
07

Map hazards

Warn
In short Both current maps have hazards that can kill or heavily damage civilians.

Two maps are in the current rotation. Teapot Paradise and FDAD each have unique hazards that affect civilians but not killers.

Worth watching out for
In Teapot Paradise, teapots fall from the sky randomly and deal 15 damage on hit if you recently used Taunt, a teapot landing on you can deal a much heavier amount or outright one-shot you.
During LMS in Teapot Paradise, the screen shifts to a slight monochrome, making it harder to see.
In FDAD, the map hazard called Kendrick chases the closest civilian, dashes at them, and kills on touch he cannot be killed, only slowed by Punch or Revolver.
Kendrick ignores killers entirely.
08

Earning points and notable badges

Check
In short Several badges reward actions you can aim for deliberately.

Points unlock killers and skins from the shop. Presence is the most expensive killer at 1750 points, and the Millionaire badge requires reaching 20,000 points total.

  • Land a perfect Block activating Block at the exact moment of a hit gives you 60 points in one go, plus 15 HP.
  • Stun the killer 10 times in one round to earn Master of Stunning.
  • Eat a hotdog 30 times in a single round to earn Gluttonous Beast.
  • Kill the killer to earn Oof.
  • As Pursued, backstab three different players in a single Stalk session to earn Stealthy.
  • Survive an Evil Scary round to earn Evilscape.
