About

Overview

Garden Tower Defense puts you in charge of building a defense out of over 350 plants, flowers, and other units to stop waves of enemies from destroying your base. You can play solo or team up with friends, and maps range from Easy all the way up to Void difficulty. This guide covers how to get started, how to place units effectively, and what to do when you get stuck.

First steps when you load in

Step
In short Redeeming codes and learning the map before a wave hits will set you up far better than diving straight in.

Before you place a single unit, take a moment to get your free Seeds and understand the layout. Seeds are the main currency for getting and upgrading units, so having extras from the start makes early waves much easier. Once you know where enemies travel, every unit you place works harder.

  1. Go to Codes find the Codes section inside the Shop and enter any active codes to claim free Seeds and Quest XP.
  2. Invite a friend the game supports co-op, so a second player covering a different stretch of the path reduces the chance anything slips through.

Choosing the right unit for the job

Table
In short Mixing unit types covers more situations than stacking one kind.

Every unit has its own attack range, attack speed, and special abilities, and the best choice shifts depending on which map and wave you are facing. No single unit type handles everything well, so understanding what each does helps you fill gaps before enemies find them.

Area-attack unitsmost effective when many enemies crowd the same stretch of path at once.
Debuff and slow unitspair these with high-damage units so enemies stay in the kill zone longer.

Mistakes that cost you the base

Check
In short Most losses come down to placement errors and unspent upgrades rather than not having strong enough units.

When enemies keep breaking through, run through these checks between waves and you will often spot the problem before the next attack arrives.

  • Units are placed off the enemy path if a unit's attack range does not reach where enemies walk, it contributes nothing.
  • Co-op partners are clustered together when two players defend the same spot, another part of the path is left open.
  • Codes have not been redeemed free Seeds from codes are an easy upgrade that many players forget to collect.

Common questions

FAQ

What is the fastest way to collect Seeds without spending Robux?

Entering codes in the Shop is a free source of Seeds. Completing matches also pays out Seeds as a reward.

Can I play every map on my own?

Yes, solo play works on any map, but the harder difficulties are much easier with at least one partner covering a second part of the path. Even teaming up with a stranger in the same server can make a big difference on tougher maps.

Why does the game say my code is invalid?

Codes expire, and an expired code will always return an error. Capital letters, lowercase letters, and numbers all have to match exactly, so copying and pasting is safer than typing by hand.

When does the game update?

Updates go live every Saturday at 1:00 PM UTC. Check the in-game Events section when you log in to see what is new or coming next.
