Game modes and what each one asks of you

Tips
In short Every mode has a different win condition, so knowing what each one demands before you jump in saves a lot of confusion.

Six standard modes are open to everyone through matchmaking. Two legacy modes — Basic Fight and Skywars — are available in custom servers. There is also an unreleased mode, Elytra Mace Duel, which you can access through customs as well. All modes are free to play.

Tips worth knowing
  • Mace Duel — a melee brawl where reading your opponent's movement before swinging matters most.
  • Crystal Duel — you are collecting resources and fighting at the same time, so you have to split your attention.
  • Bridge Duel — the narrow path means footwork and positioning give you a real edge.
  • Fireball Fight — shooting speed and accuracy with ranged magic decide who wins.
  • UHC Duel — you spend meaningful time running the map to gather items before and during the fight.
  • Sword Duel — the most straightforward mode, which makes it the best place to learn the basics.

Setting up a custom server

Step
In short Custom servers let you choose your own mode, map, and kit, and then fill the lobby with bots or friends.

You create a custom server from the lobby, not from inside a match. Once it is reserved, you can invite friends with an invite code or simply add bots to practice on your own.

  1. Reserve the server from the lobby access the customs menu in the lobby to create and reserve your own custom server.
  2. Set up your kit build a custom kit if you want to change your loadout for this session.
  3. Start playing add bots for solo practice or share the invite code so friends can join.

Starting out the right way

Check
In short Playing several modes through matchmaking first, then drilling your favourite in customs, is the fastest way to improve.

Matchmaking drops you into a random mode against other players, which is a good way to try everything quickly. Once you know which mode clicks for you, custom servers are where real practice happens.

  • Play matchmaking a few times to see the full range of modes before settling on one.
  • Open a custom server for that mode and run it against bots until the mechanics feel comfortable.
  • Invite a friend to your custom server when you are ready to test yourself against a real opponent.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need to spend Robux to play every mode?

No. Every minigame in Hoplex, including all standard modes and the legacy customs modes, is free. Matchmaking and custom servers both cost nothing to use.

How do I play with a friend instead of random players?

Create a custom server from the lobby, then share the invite code with your friend so they can join the same server.

Can I practice without playing against real people?

Yes. When you set up a custom server, you can fill it with bots instead of inviting players.

Can I play more than one mode at the same time?

You can only be in one match at a time. However, once a match ends you can immediately jump into a different mode.
