HOUR 12 Guide: The one rule you need to understand
About
OverviewHOUR 12 is a first-person horror game where you walk through a seemingly endless 1970s office and decide, room by room, whether anything has changed. Keep going if the room looks normal, turn back if something is off — that one rule drives the whole game. This guide covers how to read rooms, which modes to play and in what order, and how to approach the badges.

HOUR 12 🕛 [ANOMALY]
The one rule you need to understand
SummaryYou walk into a room and compare it to what you have seen before. If everything matches, walk out through the exit door. If anything feels wrong, leave through the door you came in. Getting it right moves the clock forward by one hour. Getting it wrong resets the clock all the way back to 1:00, so a single mistake wipes out your progress.
- No anomaly keep walking toward the exit door
- Anomaly spotted turn around and use the door you entered
- Correct call clock advances one hour
- Wrong call clock resets to 1:00
- Reach hour 12 you clear Story mode
What to check in every room
CheckThe game lists five categories of anomaly to watch for. Wearing headphones is recommended because sound changes count as anomalies.
- Posters check whether the content or position has shifted
- Chairs look for changes in arrangement or appearance
- Sounds listen for any difference in the background music or ambient noise
- Lights notice any change in brightness or color
- Objects that do not belong spot anything that should not be in the room at all
Mode order and co-op options
StepThere are four modes in total. You cannot access Overtime mode until you finish Story mode at least once. Once Overtime is unlocked, you can tackle it alone or with others.
- Story mode work through rooms solo until the clock reaches 12
- Overtime mode unlocks after finishing Story mode once
- Story CO-OP play through the story alongside friends
- Overtime CO-OP run Overtime mode with friends
Wrong turns and what they cost
WarnEvery wrong call sends you back to the very start of the clock. The game also rewards deliberate failure — taking wrong turns on purpose is the only way to earn certain badges.
