PETAPETA: School of Nightmares [Lv.5] is a horror survival game set inside an abandoned school, where your main job is to hunt down Cursed Shards and piece together a dark story through the archives. This guide covers how to start, what to collect, the different difficulty modes, and how the PvP Rank Match works.
In shortA few quick settings before you load in will make the experience much better.
The game recommends playing at max graphics and wearing headphones. It contains flashing lights and loud noises, so adjust your volume before you start and check that your environment is safe for those effects. If flashing lights are a health concern for you, take that seriously before launching.
Switch graphics to the maximum setting.
Put headphones on so the audio cues come through clearly.
If flashing lights are a risk for you, stop here and do not continue.
In shortCollecting Cursed Shards is the core loop of the game, and each one you find unlocks more of the story.
The school hides Cursed Shards throughout its rooms and corridors. Every shard you pick up unlocks part of the archive, which is a record of the school's history and the mystery behind PETAPETA. The archive grows in stages. Badges confirm the milestones — five fragments, twenty, and thirty each mark a new stage of the story.
Search the schoolexplore every room and corner you can reach, because shards are scattered widely.
Pick up each shardyour first one earns the First Taste of Darkness badge and starts the archive.
Check the archiveafter collecting shards, read the newly unlocked entries to follow the story.
Keep pushingtwenty shards reveal twenty chapters, and thirty shards complete the full record.
Escape while holding shardsthe Shard Hoarder badge requires you to leave the school with 150 Cursed Shards still on you.

In shortKnowing when to hide and when to move is the difference between escaping and starting over.
The school is dangerous, and staying alive long enough to collect shards and reach the exit takes awareness. Lockers are a tool you should use actively. The minimap added in the September 17 update is now available in PvE. Escaping in under ten minutes earns the Leave Early badge.
Tips worth knowing
Use lockers when you need to wait out a threat — hiding in one 100 times earns the Scaredy-cat badge.
Watch for keys and locks — the badges Key to Salvation and The First Lock Falls point to locks you must deal with on the way to the exit.
Break doors and glass when they block your path — doing this 100 times earns Destruction King.
Use the minimap to stay oriented and plan your route to the exit.
Aim to escape within ten minutes for the Leave Early badge.

Difficulty modes
Table
In shortThe game offers three difficulty tiers.
Beyond the standard run, the game has Hard Mode and Super Hard Mode. Each has its own welcome badge when you enter and a clear badge when you finish. Super Hard Mode is the toughest the game offers.
Standard
the default experience; focus on learning the layout and collecting shards.
Hard Mode
finish it for the Hard mode clearer badge.
Super Hard Mode
the hardest tier; completing it earns the Super Hard mode clearer badge.

Co-op and level variants
Tips
In shortPlaying with friends and trying other level variants both add replay value beyond the solo run.
The game can be played with others, and finishing it with four friends earns the Friendship is precious badge. There are also at least two other level variants — Lv.2 and Lv.3 — each with their own clear badge. This Lv.5 version shares the same basic controls as the rest of the PETAPETA series but adds its own story and new elements.
Tips worth knowing
Bring up to four friends to earn the co-op clear badge.
Try Lv.2 and Lv.3 for their own clear badges.
Basic controls carry over from other PETAPETA games.
07
PvP Rank Match
Step
In shortPvP Rank Match is a separate competitive mode with its own rules.
A PvP Rank Match mode was added to the game. The September 17 update changed how skills work in PvP: you can only use three skills per battle, and you have to choose them before the match starts. The PvP Priority Ticket in your inventory can be toggled on or off.
Pick your three skillsbefore a PvP match begins, choose the three skills you will be allowed to use, because you cannot change them mid-battle.
Toggle the PvP Priority Ticketopen your inventory and switch it on or off.
08
When you are stuck
Check
The archive itself can give you a clue about how far along you are. If something seems broken rather than just hidden, restarting the game clears most bugs.
Go back through areas you thought were finished.
Read your current archive entries.
Restart the session if something clearly is not working as it should.
