Staying alive: hunger and threats

Tips
In short Managing hunger and reading danger are the two skills that keep you in the game.

Going hungry drains your health, so finding food is a constant job. Food is scattered around the island, which means you will need to keep moving to find it. Other player-controlled dinosaurs can turn hostile, so reading whether a fight is worth taking is just as important as hunting.

Tips worth knowing
  • Make food runs a regular habit — do not wait until your health is already dropping.
  • If your health gets low, find somewhere to hide and let it recover before moving on.
  • Size up opponents before engaging — a dinosaur that looks much larger than yours is a signal to back off.
  • Use your dinosaur's own strengths — a fast dinosaur should run from a fight it cannot win.
  • Moving in a group with other players can make dangerous situations more manageable.

Ways to play with other players

Table
In short Fallen Ashes supports three different styles of play, and you can switch between them whenever you like.

There is no single right way to approach the island. Your options range from full cooperation to direct competition to going it completely alone.

Co-opteam up with other players to hunt larger prey and explore together.
PvPfight other player-controlled dinosaurs directly.
Solohunt and explore the island entirely on your own, avoiding other players.

Common questions

FAQ

What should I do the moment I spawn in?

Open the map and work out where you are on the island. Check whether any other players are nearby before you start moving. Once you find a reasonably safe spot, use it as a base and go looking for food.

A much stronger player keeps killing me. What can I do?

Get away from the area and find cover. Using your dinosaur's speed or size to stay out of reach is a valid strategy.

Can I play through the whole game solo?

Yes. Hunting and exploring alone is a supported way to play. You can avoid other players entirely if you prefer, though grouping up can make harder situations easier.
