About

Overview

NPC or DIE! is a social deduction game where players are split into Sheriffs and Criminals each round. Sheriffs hunt down rule-breakers while Criminals try to complete tasks and sabotage the town without getting caught. This guide covers how both roles work, what to do in your first few rounds, and how to earn rewards outside of matches.

Your first round

Step
In short Getting your bearings early makes both roles much easier to play.

When you load in, check which role you have been assigned — Sheriff or Criminal — because everything about how you play depends on that. Play at least one full round before worrying about tactics, since the layout and pace of the game become much clearer once you have seen it in action. Joining the official group also rewards you with a free in-game item and 500 cash, so it is worth doing before your second session.

  1. Check your role confirm whether you are Sheriff or Criminal before the round timer starts.
  2. Stay aware of the round-start screen the Blind Shot badge shows that arrests made before it disappears are possible, meaning things can happen very fast.
  3. Join the official group you receive a free item and 500 cash just for joining.
  4. Play both sides because roles are assigned randomly, you will experience both eventually, and knowing how Criminals think helps you as a Sheriff and vice versa.

Playing as Sheriff

Tips
In short Good Sheriffs observe behaviour patterns rather than reacting only to obvious mistakes.

As Sheriff, your job is to find and catch Criminals while keeping the town safe. The badges the game tracks reveal a lot about what skilled Sheriffs do: they cover distance, watch from range, punish careless sprinting, and respond quickly even after being stunned.

Tips worth knowing
  • Watch for players who sprint away — the Playing with Food badge rewards catching someone mid-sprint, which tells you that fleeing is a readable tell.
  • Try to maintain distance before shooting; a kill from over 85 studs away is recognised as a skill shot by the game.
  • If a Criminal stuns you, recover and respond within 5 seconds — doing so earns the Best Served Cold badge and can turn a bad moment into a catch.
  • Catching every Criminal in a single round requires more than 3 Criminals to count.
  • Use '/votekick' followed by a username if you need to flag a disruptive player.

Playing as Criminal

Tips
In short Criminals win by staying calm and blending in, not by rushing tasks.

As a Criminal, you need to complete assigned tasks and help sabotage the town, all without being spotted by Sheriffs. The game rewards patient play — the Slow and Steady badge goes to players who win without sprinting at all, and the Jumping Jack badge rewards winning after jumping ten times. The biggest pressure comes when you are the last Criminal standing.

Tips worth knowing
  • Avoid sprinting near Sheriffs — unnecessary movement draws attention.
  • Complete tasks when a Sheriff is within 15 studs if you can manage it; the Close Call badge shows this is a real skill, not just luck.
  • Stun Sheriffs when cornered — driving one into their own death is a recognised play.
  • If you end up as the last Criminal, you can still win; the Last One badge confirms this and requires starting with more than 3 Criminals in the lobby.

Earning cash and using codes

Check
In short Codes and group rewards are the fastest way to build your cash balance.

Cash is the in-game currency. The game releases codes at like milestones — the description confirms a code was issued at 700,000 likes — and codes give you free cash when redeemed. There is currently one working code tracked on this site as of September 13, 2026. Codes can only be used once and expire, so redeem them as soon as you find them.

  • Join the official group before your first session to collect the free item and 500 cash.
  • Check the game description for announced codes whenever new like milestones are reached.
  • Redeem any code you find promptly they expire and cannot be reused.
  • Visit the game's UGC shop if you want to customise your character with available items.

Trading and item values

Summary
In short Trading rewards patience and research — always check values before you agree to a deal.

NPC or DIE! has an active trading economy built around rare Sheriffs, guns, and houses. Item values shift over time, and the community runs a dedicated website at npcordie.com where you can look up any player's inventory, check the current value list, and run trades through a simulator before committing.

Rare items limited Sheriffs, guns, and houses are sought-after collectibles in the trading economy.
Value list the npcordie.com site keeps an updated list so you can price-check before trading.
Inventory lookup you can search any player's inventory on the same site to assess what they own.
Trading simulator test a deal in the simulator first to avoid making a loss.
