Mini Empires — First steps in every match
About
OverviewMini Empires is a real-time strategy game on Roblox where you build an economy, expand across a hex-tile map, and command infantry, vehicles, and naval units to destroy the enemy Core. This guide covers how to start strong, fight effectively, and compete in ranked play.

First steps in every match
StepYour Core is your headquarters — if it falls, you lose. Before you train any combat units, you need a steady income or you will quickly run out of funds. The game burns your buildings one by one when your balance goes negative, so an empty treasury is a real emergency.
- Queue Builders train three or four Builders right away so construction goes faster.
- Place Farms get three Farms up to start generating steady income before spending on anything else.
- Expand Houses reach six Houses before committing to a rushdown, since Houses determine how many units you can field at once.
- Pick a route either wall up your Core and turtle defensively, or start producing vehicles for an early push.
Unit categories and what they do
SummaryEvery unit belongs to one of four broad categories. Each has distinct strengths, and most units reach their potential only when combined with others rather than used alone.
Fighting smarter, not just bigger
TipsThe combat tips below come from both competitive players and ranked strategy guides. Several of them are counterintuitive, so read them before your first real fight.
- Keep units bundled together rather than spread out — concentrated fire kills enemies faster and leaves you with more survivors.
- When attacking a Training Camp defended by Gunners, bring at least two of your own Gunners; even one extra tips the exchange heavily in your favor.
- Humvees are the most cost-efficient unit for draining an enemy Core — spam them once you have a Vehicle Factory close to the enemy and fifteen or more queued.
- If your alliance partner abandons you, stop at six Houses and focus on blocking enemies rather than finishing off your former ally — wasting units on their Core just hands the opposing team time to prepare.
- Disrupt enemy farms and Gold Mines early, because controlling income is the primary win condition, especially in Ranked.
- Radars and Scouts give you map awareness that prevents surprise attacks; use them on large maps like Inferno where movement is hard to track.
Surge bases — taking the fight to enemy territory
StepThis forward-base approach works best early when the enemy is still developing and has gaps in their coastal or flank coverage. You need a Harbor and enough Builders before you start.
- Load Builders onto a Speedboat send them to a remote coastal tile near enemy territory before the enemy controls that coastline.
- Place a Vehicle Factory first orient it toward the enemy you want to hit, then put five Walls around it on every side except the vehicle exit.
- Add an inner layer build a Training Camp inside the walls, an optional Hospital, and Turrets to defend against counterattacks.
- Layer outward add more Walls and Gates on each new ring, and tuck Harbors and Missile Defenses into the perimeter as funds allow.
Oceanic isolation — cracking fortified island players
TipsSome players pour all their resources into a single fortified island with landmines and layered defenses that make a direct land approach nearly impossible. Naval pressure bypasses those defenses entirely.
- Build a large fleet of Destroyers rather than Submarines — Submarines focus on structures and are less versatile for coastline control.
- Send the Destroyers to the enemy shoreline and clear it completely, removing their ability to reinforce or expand by sea.
- Maintain continuous naval presence after you clear the coast — if you pull back, the enemy can retake it and you lose the advantage.
- Once the coast is held, use transport ships to land ground troops at multiple points simultaneously, forcing the enemy to split their defense.
- Accept that this strategy consumes a large chunk of your unit capacity — the payoff is attacking from several directions at once instead of one choke point.
Game modes and how they differ
TableMini Empires has several distinct modes. The fog-of-war modes change how you gather information, and Ranked adds a skill-bracket matchmaking system on top of that.
| Ambush | same rules as Casual but the entire map is fogged; Scouts and Radar Towers become essential |
| Ranked | Ambush-style fog with three-player alliances, shared Core and income per team, and MMR-based matchmaking |
| Ranked entry requirement | ten unranked wins required before you can queue |
| Ranked placement | five placement matches determine your starting rank |
| Matchmaking range | you can be matched with players up to two full ranks above or below you |
Climbing the ranked ladder
TipsRanked is Ambush mode with three-player alliances. Each alliance shares one Core and one income stream, but every player manages their own cash pool separately. Matchmaking can be slow — waiting around twenty minutes is common, so queue with something else to do nearby.
- The five ranks from lowest to highest are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Master, and Paragon — each of Bronze, Silver, and Gold has three tiers.
- Paragon is limited to the top 30 MMR players in the world.
- Beating a player with much higher MMR gives you a large MMR gain; losing to a much lower-ranked player costs you far more MMR than a normal loss.
- Queue with two partied teammates whenever possible — a coordinated trio communicates strategy before the match starts, which is called out as a major advantage.
- If you are solo-queuing, ping your intended path and strategy at the start of the match to prevent your teammates from splitting into conflicting plans.
- On Abyss, contest the center first — Gold Mines there are the stepping stone to Oil Rigs, and disrupting the enemy's economy before they stabilize is the stated priority.
Map resources at a glance
TableEach map has a fixed number of Farm Tiles, Gold Tiles, and Oil Spots. More of these means faster economies for whoever controls them, so knowing the counts helps you decide how aggressively to expand.
| Map | Farm Tiles | Gold Tiles | Oil Spots | Mode |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vertigo (Old) | 20 | 4 | 6 | Unranked |
| Summit | 24 | 5 | 6 | Unranked |
| Horizon | 20 | 9 | 7 | Unranked |
| Breaktide | 24 | 9 | 6 | Unranked |
| Dune | 13 | 6 | 3 | 1v1 |
| Abyss | 22 | 10 | 8 | Ranked |
| Inferno | 26 | 12 | 6 | Ranked |
| Barrens | 34 | 8 | 0 | Custom |

Common questions
FAQHow do I unlock Ranked mode?
You need ten wins in unranked matches first. After that, you play five placement matches to receive your starting rank. Matchmaking then pairs you with players within two ranks of your own.
What should I do if my ally abandons the match?
Do not spend your units finishing off your former ally's Core — the houses you gain are not worth the time you hand the enemy to fortify. Instead, stay at six Houses, grab available Farm spots, and focus on holding back the two-player team that is now your biggest threat.
Why do I keep losing fights even when I have more units?
Spreading units apart reduces your effective damage output dramatically. Keep them bundled so their combined fire kills enemy units before those units can whittle your group down.
Are there free codes I can redeem?
Yes, the game distributes redeem codes periodically. The game page itself advertises at least one active code.
What is the fastest way to generate income early?
Build three Farms as your very first priority using three or four Builders. Then push toward the nearest Gold Tiles, since a Gold Mine pays off more over time than additional Farms.
