About
OverviewSpeedster Showdown is a Roblox fighting game where you pick from a large cast of Sonic-series characters and battle other players across themed maps. Each character has a unique moveset and an awakening system that unlocks stronger abilities when your awakening bar fills up. This guide covers controls, character basics, the awakening system, maps, and how to handle the toughest opponent in the game.

Controls to learn before your first match
CheckAll movement and combat runs through your keyboard and mouse.
- F hold to block incoming attacks.
- Q tap to dash.
- Q + W together activates your boost or forward attack.
- Right-click fires off a forward attack or boost.
- Left-click throws a basic punch.
- Hold Space then Left-click launches an uppercut.
How the awakening system works
StepEvery character shares the same core loop: build the awakening bar through normal combat, then activate it to access a completely different and more powerful set of moves. Two things are worth knowing before you get there.
- Activate when full once the bar is completely filled, trigger your awakening to transform and swap to your awakening moveset.
- Early Access exception if you are playing an Early Access character whose awakening moves have not been built yet, activating the awakening instead restores you to full HP and boosts the damage of your existing base moves.
- Watch for counters some awakening moves, including Blaze's Burning Impact, are counter moves that punish opponents who attack you during a short window.
Starting characters worth knowing
TableBoth Amy and Blaze are free characters with complete movesets.
| Amy | base moveset mixes a blockable spindash, an unblockable boomerang throw, an unblockable hammer slam, and a Tarot Read that randomly grants one of three buffs: Attack, Health, or Defense. |
| Blaze | applies a Burn effect through multiple moves; her Inferno Impact grab burns the target for its full duration before exploding them. |
| Amy awakening | Rose Radiance enlarges her hammer; follow up with the unblockable Pink Tornado (60 damage) or Card Toss (75 damage spread across four cards). |
| Blaze awakening | Blazing Implosion deals 109 damage but is blockable; Burning Impact punishes opponents who attack during its counter window. |
Gamepasses and what they actually change
SummaryNone of the current gamepasses make your character stronger in a match. The developers state directly that no character has an unfair advantage, and gamepass characters vary only in moveset and handling.
- Early Access (299 Robux) lets you play Mecha Sonic and Infinite before their movesets are finished; expect bugs.
- Awakening Outfit Selector (150 Robux) changes the costume your character wears when you activate awakening; one outfit active at a time.
- Character Accessories (150 Robux) toggles cosmetic details like shoes, gloves, tails, and special effects such as Mephiles's crystals or Infinite's Phantom Ruby aura.
- Private Server+ required to use 2017 X and other private-server-exclusive characters outside of normal matchmaking.
Glossary
Glossary- Awakening
- A powered-up state that activates when your awakening bar is completely full, replacing your normal moveset with stronger awakening-specific moves.
- Burn
- A status effect applied by several of Blaze's moves that deals continuous damage to the target for a short duration after the move lands.
- AoE
- Short for Area of Effect; any move marked AoE damages multiple nearby players at the same time rather than a single target.
- Counter move
- A move that activates in response to an opponent attacking you during a specific short window, turning their aggression against them.
- Clash Lines
- Short lines that play when two specific characters hit each other at the same moment.
- Phantom Ruby
- An ancient gem sitting on the Baseplate Spire map that, in the game's lore, generates illusions indistinguishable from reality.
Common questions
FAQHow does the map vote work?
Every 30 minutes all players vote on where the next battle takes place, and whichever map gets the most votes loads next. If you vote for the map you are already on, it delays the upcoming switch and keeps the current map running longer.
Can I play as 2017 X in a normal public server?
No. 2017 X was removed from public servers on June 6, 2025. He is now only available in private servers.
What happens if an Early Access character has no awakening moves yet?
Activating the awakening still does something useful: it restores that character to full HP and increases the damage output of their base moves.
Are any badges still obtainable?
All badges from when the game was called Sonic Showdown did not carry over to Speedster Showdown, so none of those are available. The only badge that existed — for defeating the 2017 X raid boss — is also unobtainable because 2017 X no longer appears in public servers.
