Getting started — your first few minutes
StepWhen you first spawn in, start mining the blocks around you. The materials you collect feed into crafting recipes that produce tools, weapons, and building supplies. A quest chain is there from the start, walking you through what to do next.
- Mine nearby blocks to collect materials.
- Open your quests the quest chain guides you through what to gather or craft.
- Craft basic tools combine raw materials to make your first wooden tools.
- Fight nearby mobs hostile creatures drop extra materials you will need for crafting.
- Cook your food raw meat from animals heals only 2 health, but cooking it in a furnace raises that to 5.
Tool and armor tiers
TableTools and armor both follow the same five-tier system, from weakest to strongest. Each tier can be crafted into four tool types — axe, pickaxe, shovel, and hoe — and four armor pieces: helmet, chestplate, pants, and boots. Leather armor exists as a separate set outside this tier list.
| Wooden | weakest starting tier |
| Stone | a step up from wood |
| Iron | required minimum to mine Amethyst and Crimson Stone |
| Golden | matches Amethyst in effectiveness but has lower durability |
| Amethyst | strongest and rarest tier, capable of mining Crimson Stone |

Overworld structures and what they hold
TipsThe Overworld is dotted with structures, each with its own enemies and rewards.
- Portal Ruins have a chest that can hold Crimson Stone — the material you need to build a portal to the Underworld.
- The Bastion is the only Overworld place to get a Crimson Spirit; its third-floor chest always holds Regenectar, a Crimson Spirit, and Amethyst.
- A hidden chest behind barrels on the Bastion's first floor always contains hide, an iron sword, sulfur, arrows, and an apple.
- The Olmec Temple floats in the sky and has four rooms, each with a spawner; defeating the Olmec Golem reliably drops the Olmec Hammer.
- The 3 Towered Arena contains Skeletons in its towers and can hold Amethyst and Souls — Souls are used to create portals and enter the Underworld.
- Villages have four to five houses with chests that can contain arrows and sticks.

- Search floating islands Amethyst can be found on some of them.
- Clear the Bastion the third-floor chest always contains one Amethyst.

- Collect Crimson Stone find it in the chest at a Portal Ruins structure in the Overworld.
