When you first load in, squids are right in front of you. Eating them is the only thing you need to do to gain levels, and every level brings you closer to a new evolution.

Getting the most out of raids
Tips
Raids open up once you have leveled up enough. They put multiple players together against an enemy, and rewards include wins and experience. Solo runs are possible, but co-op play is also supported.
