In short Every step you complete makes your character measurably faster, so clearing stages is the core loop.

Speed is the main stat in this game, and you raise it by completing steps. You can train on treadmills or run across the map — both methods count. The goal is to out-pace every other player on the server.

Treadmill training　builds speed in a controlled spot without crossing the full map
Running the map　covers more ground and puts your speed to the test at the same time
Completing steps　each one directly adds to how fast your character moves
