Getting set up to drive

Step
In short You cannot spawn a train until you have joined the official group and cleared the tutorial.

The game will not let you drive right away. Two things have to happen first. Once both are done, you can spawn regular trains and start running routes.

  1. Join the official group follow the in-game prompts to join; driving is locked until this is done.
  2. Read the precautions the game asks you to go through the rules before you play.
  3. Clear the tutorial finishing it unlocks the ability to spawn standard trains.

Areas to visit and badges to collect

Check
In short Reaching each area and exploring carefully is the main way to earn badges in Kokuden Railway.

Beyond the main line, there are separate areas you can travel to, each with their own badges. Some badges just require you to show up; others reward careful exploration of spots that are easy to walk past.

  • Ride to the last stop arriving at the terminus earns the 'Terminus' badge.
  • Move to the branch-line server entering the branch area gives you the 'Branch Line' badge.
  • Enter the metro heading into the metro area unlocks the 'Metro' badge.
  • Find the stray cat a cat lives somewhere in the station; spotting it gives you the 'Meow' badge.
  • Visit the house stopping by earns you the 'Home' badge.
  • Hunt hidden areas places like the disused line and the phantom station have their own badges waiting for players who look hard enough.

Hidden keys and why you must find them yourself

Warn
In short The developers have explicitly forbidden sharing the key locations online, so you need to discover them through your own exploration.

Two badge items — an ordinary key found in a past-world area and a mysterious key found somewhere else — can be picked up in specific hidden spots. Their in-game descriptions say their uses are unknown, making them part of an ongoing mystery. The developers have made it clear that posting or sharing their locations in videos, on social media, or anywhere else online is not allowed.

Worth watching out for
Do not post key locations to video sites, social media, or forums the developers have explicitly banned this.
The keys' purposes are part of the game's mystery; find where to use them yourself.
04

Actions that will get you punished

Warn
In short Several rule violations are easy to stumble into by accident, so it is worth knowing the full list before you play.

The game enforces a clear list of punishable behaviour. Some of it is obvious, but a few items — like excessive switch-flipping or teleporting while seated — can happen without thinking.

Worth watching out for
Using cheating tools or exploits is punishable.
Stepping onto the tracks more than necessary is against the rules.
Flipping track switches too many times without reason counts as an offence.
Teleporting while sitting, including misuse of TP, is forbidden.
Disrupting another player's train is treated as griefing.
Modifying the map without permission or leaking internal information is also punishable.
05

Server shutdowns and updates

Summary
In short A shutdown always means an update is happening, not a crash.

If the server drops while you are playing, it is not a bug. The game officially treats every shutdown as an update event. Rejoining after a short wait will put you on the latest version.

  • Shutdown means an update is being applied, not that something broke.
  • Jump scares and flashing lights present in some parts of the game, so be ready for them.
06

Special and event badges

Tips
In short Some badges are tied to rare events or specific encounters rather than regular exploration.

A handful of badges sit outside normal gameplay and depend on timing or luck.

Tips worth knowing
  • The 'Admin Run' badge comes from taking part in a run event hosted by an admin.
  • April Fools and Halloween badges are tied to those calendar dates.
  • Meeting the game's owner in a server earns you a badge for it.
  • Reaching 125 mph has its own badge.
  • Getting struck by electricity and fare-dodging each have their own badges.
