Tool and armor tiers
TableBoth tools and armor follow the same five-tier ladder. Each tier can be made into the same set of pieces, so the tier you are on decides how well everything works.
| Tier | Tools available | Armor pieces available | Notable rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden | Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Hoe, Sword | Helmet, Armor, Pants, Boots | Starting tier |
| Stone | Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Hoe, Sword | Helmet, Armor, Pants, Boots | — |
| Iron | Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Hoe, Sword | Helmet, Armor, Pants, Boots | Required to mine Amethyst and Crimson Stone |
| Golden | Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Hoe, Sword | Helmet, Armor, Pants, Boots | Same digging speed as Amethyst but lower durability |
| Amethyst | Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel, Hoe, Sword | Helmet, Armor, Pants, Boots | Strongest and rarest tier |
| Leather | — | Helmet, Armor, Pants, Boots | Separate set, not part of the five-tier ladder |

Key structures and what you find there
CheckStructures are spread across the Overworld and the Underworld. Each one has enemies, spawners, and chests. The items locked inside certain structures are the only way to progress to the next dimension.
- Village four or five houses connected by Castle Stone Brick paths; chests inside hold arrows and sticks.
- 3 Towered Arena the towers contain Skeletons and hold at least one Amethyst and one Soul; Souls are needed to activate a portal to the Underworld.
- Portal Ruins a crumbling portal in the Overworld; the chest here can contain Crimson Stones, which are required to complete the portal structure.
- Bastion guarded by spawners; the third-floor chest always contains Regenectar, a Crimson Spirit, and Amethyst; the first-floor chest behind barrels always has hide, an Iron Sword, sulfur, arrows, and an apple. Crimson Spirit is only available here in the Overworld.
- Olmec Temple / Prism spawns in the sky with four rooms, each containing a spawner; defeating the Olmec Golem inside reliably drops the Olmec Hammer.
- Cursed Dungeon a dungeon structure with its own spawners and loot chests.
- The Underworld reached through an activated portal; home to Ghouls and the multi-phase boss Tormentor, who is surrounded by a shrine with a chest containing one Amethyst.
Mining Amethyst
TipsAmethyst is the rarest ore in the Overworld and the material for the strongest tools and armor. It is also one of only two ores that can mine Crimson Stone.
- Dig down to the very bottom of the world to find Amethyst veins underground.
- Check floating islands, since Amethyst can also appear there.
- The Bastion's third floor and the Tormentor shrine chest each hold one Amethyst.
- You must have at least an Iron pickaxe equipped — lower tiers cannot break Amethyst ore.
Realms and playing with friends
StepRealms are private server instances that each keep their own world data. The player who creates the Realm is the owner and has full admin controls over who stays and who goes.
- Create the Realm open the menu and start a new Realm to spin up a private world.
- Share the invite code send the code to the friends you want to join you.
- Manage the server as owner you can kick, ban, or shut down the Realm at any time.
Ascension and long-term goals
SummaryOnce you have gathered enough Amethyst, you can Ascend: you lose everything in your inventory, but your Rebirth count is saved to your profile forever. The leaderboard adds another layer of long-term competition across four categories.
- Ascension trigger collect enough Amethyst, then choose to Ascend.
- What you lose your entire inventory resets when you Ascend.
- What you keep your Rebirth count is permanently added to your profile.
- Leaderboard categories blocks mined, blocks placed, mob kills, and playtime.
- Crown reward the top three players in any leaderboard category appear in-game wearing a crown.
Item stacking and dropping
TipsItems behave differently depending on whether they are in your inventory, in your hotbar, or loose in the world.
- Most items stack to 64; some only stack to 16, and others cannot stack at all.
- When you highlight an item in your hotbar, its name briefly appears above the HUD.
- Dropped items become floating sprites above the ground — walk over them to pick them up.
- Lava, trashcans, and explosions all destroy dropped items permanently.
- Items dropped while submerged still drop normally, even though your movement underwater is different.
- Items that place things — like boats or beds — become entities or blocks in the world when used, not dropped sprites.

Common questions
FAQHow do I get to the Underworld?
You need to build and activate a portal using Crimson Stones, which can be found in Portal Ruins chests. You also need a Crimson Spirit, which drops from the Bastion's third-floor chest. Souls found in the 3 Towered Arena are also used in the portal process.
What happens when I Ascend?
Your entire inventory is wiped, so you lose all your items and materials. In return, your Rebirth count goes up by one and stays on your profile permanently.
Why can't I mine Amethyst?
Amethyst requires at least an Iron pickaxe to break. Craft or find an Iron pickaxe first, then head to the bottom of the world or check the Bastion and Tormentor shrine for guaranteed Amethyst.
Can I play with friends on a private world?
Yes — create a Realm from the game menu and share the invite code with your friends. The Realm owner can also kick or ban players.
What is the best way to restore health?
You cannot regenerate health above 8 points, so you need food to top up. Cooked Patty, Cooked Sausage, Soup, and Panacea all restore 5 points. Regenberries also add a healing effect for 4 seconds.
