How the game works

Summary
In short Eat, grow, and evolve — that loop is everything in DEVOUR.

You spawn as a small sea creature and immediately need to find food. Eating makes you bigger, and reaching certain growth thresholds unlocks new, stronger creatures to evolve into. There is no size cap, so you can keep growing as long as you keep eating. The ultimate goal is to climb the food chain until you become the apex predator that nothing else can touch.

  • Start small you begin at the bottom of the food chain
  • Eat food growing bigger is the only way to progress
  • Evolve hit specific growth stages to unlock stronger forms
  • Dominate reach the top and nothing in the ocean can eat you

Surviving with 60 other players

Warn
In short Every other player is either your meal or your predator.

A single server holds up to 60 players, all competing in the same ocean at the same time. Being eaten by another player ends your run, at which point you can start a new game.

Worth watching out for
Anything bigger than you is a threat
Anything smaller than you is food eat it to gain size
Getting eaten ends your session

Creatures you can evolve into

Tips
In short The evolution path runs from ordinary fish and jellyfish all the way up to prehistoric giants.

Unlock conditions are tied to reaching the right growth stage.

Tips worth knowing
  • Common sea life like fish and jellyfish appear in earlier stages
  • Mid-tier predators include creatures like orca
  • Sharks are on the path toward the top
  • Prehistoric sea creatures — including the megalodon and mosasaurus — represent the upper end of the evolution chain

Tips for growing faster

Check
In short Consistent eating is the single most important habit in DEVOUR.

Because there is no size limit, every piece of food you eat moves you closer to the next evolution.

  • Never stop eating even small food adds up when there is no ceiling on your size
  • As you grow, the range of things you can eat widens

Common questions

FAQ

Is there a maximum size you can reach?

No. The game has no size limit, so you can keep growing for as long as you keep eating.

What happens when another player eats you?

Your current run ends. You can then start a new game and work your way back up from a small creature again.

How many players are in a server at once?

Up to 60 players share the same ocean in a single session.

How do I unlock new creatures?

You need to reach specific growth stages by eating enough food. Once you hit the required size, the new evolution becomes available.
