About

Overview

Life Sentence drops you into a prison with up to 35 players, where you choose to be an inmate trying to survive and escape or a guard trying to keep order. This guide covers how to pick a role, craft weapons, navigate the prison, and protect your stats — everything you need to stop dying and start winning.

Choosing your role at the start

Table
In short Pick the role that matches how you want to play, because the two sides have completely different goals.

When you first load in, you choose between inmate and guard. Inmates compete against other dangerous players and work toward controlling — or escaping — the prison. Guards exist to keep that chaos in check. Both sides need combat skills and a solid read of the map to last.

Inmatefight other players, hunt for a way out, and try to dominate the prison
Guardstop inmates from breaking out or running wild, coordinate with other guards to manage multiple threats at once

Controls for every device

Check
In short Check your control setup before your first real fight, because the buttons differ across devices.

Life Sentence runs on desktop, phones, tablets, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, and each platform maps actions differently. A button that reloads your gun on PC is a different key on a controller, so sorting this out early saves you from fumbling mid-combat.

  • Drop Item F on keyboard, or DPad Left on controller
  • Stomp E on keyboard, or DPad Down on controller
  • Carry G on keyboard, or DPad Up on controller
  • Reload R on keyboard, Button X on Xbox, or Button Square on PlayStation
  • Run Left Shift on keyboard, or press the Left Thumbstick on controller
  • Camera Lock Left Control on keyboard, Button Y on Xbox, or Button Triangle on PlayStation

Crafting weapons and tools

Step
In short Learning to craft is the fastest way to arm yourself without spending anything.

The prison has a crafting system that lets you build guns and tools from materials you find. Getting your first crafted gun is a real milestone — it changes how you can handle fights. Whether you're an inmate or a guard, knowing how crafting works gives you an edge over players who ignore it.

  1. Search dumpsters dumpsters are interactive objects worth checking
  2. Craft your weapon use the crafting system to build a gun or tool once you have enough materials
05

Escaping the prison as an inmate

Tips
In short Escape is possible, but it rewards players who explore every corner of the prison.

The game itself hints that smart inmates can find a way out. That means the escape route is not handed to you — you have to go looking for it.

Tips worth knowing
  • Check every area of the prison, including spots that look like dead ends
  • Watch for interactive furniture and props, since the prison is filled with them
06

Protecting your respect stat

Warn
In short Quitting during a fight costs you respect, so only enter combat when you can see it through.

Respect is a stat that affects your rank. If you leave the game while you're in combat, you lose respect. Private servers do not save your stats at all, so any progress you make there won't carry over.

Worth watching out for
Leaving mid-combat drops your respect and hurts your rank
Use private servers for practice only nothing you do there saves to your profile

Common questions

FAQ

What happens if I close the game during a fight?

You lose respect, which affects your rank. If you need to stop playing, try to get out of combat first so you don't take the penalty.

Private servers don't save your stats, so switch to a public server when you want your rank to actually grow.

Do I need to spend Robux to get good weapons?

No — the crafting system is available to everyone and lets you build guns and tools from materials found in the prison.
