About

Overview

Monopoly on Roblox is a close recreation of the classic board game where you buy properties, collect rent, and try to bankrupt every other player. This guide covers the core rules, how a turn works, what the bank does, the Halloween update's Jack's Curse mode, and the Card Draft modifier.

Goal and starting money

Summary
In short You win by being the last player with money — everyone else must go bankrupt.

Every player begins with $1,500 and picks a token to move around the board. The bank holds all unsold properties, houses, hotels, and the remaining cash. A designated banker keeps the bank's funds strictly separate from their own.

  • Objective bankrupt every opponent by buying, renting, and trading properties
  • Starting cash $1,500 per player
  • Token one per player, stays on the board between turns
  • Banker role one player manages the bank and can also act as auctioneer
  • Bank funds the bank never runs out; the banker can write IOUs on paper if cash runs low

How a turn works

Step
In short Each turn you roll, move, and deal with whatever space you land on — but rolling doubles lets you go again.

The player who rolls the highest total on the first round of dice goes first. After that, turns pass to the left. Rolling doubles earns you an extra throw, but three doubles in a row sends you straight to Jail.

  1. Roll the dice add both dice and move that many spaces in the direction shown on the board
  2. Act on the space buy or auction a property, pay rent, draw a card, pay a tax, or go to Jail depending on where you land
  3. Collect $200 if your token lands on or passes GO, the bank pays you $200 each time
  4. Roll again on doubles if both dice show the same number, take another turn after resolving the space
  5. Go to Jail on triple doubles landing in Jail ends your turn immediately if you rolled doubles three times in a row

Buying, auctioning, and building

Tips
In short Owning a full color group is where your real earning power comes from.

Landing on an unowned property gives you the first chance to buy it at the price printed on its Title Deed. If you pass, the bank auctions it immediately. Once you own every property in a color group, you can start buying houses, which push rent up sharply. Four houses on every property in a group lets you upgrade them all to hotels.

Tips worth knowing
  • Declining to buy sends a property straight to auction — anyone can bid, even the player who said no, and bidding can start at any price
  • Keep your Title Deed face up so other players can see what you own; a mortgaged deed goes face down and collects no rent
  • Owning a complete color group lets you charge double rent on every unimproved property in that group
  • Build evenly — you cannot put a second house on any property until every property in the group has one
  • You can buy, sell, and collect rent even while you are in Jail
05

Jail, taxes, and other spaces

Check
In short Know what each space costs you so nothing catches you by surprise mid-game.

Several spaces on the board cost you money or your turn if you are not ready for them. Jail in particular has specific rules for getting out, and the tax spaces give you a decision to make.

  • Three ways into Jail landing on Go to Jail, drawing a Go to Jail card, or rolling doubles three times in a row
  • Four ways out of Jail roll doubles on any of your next three turns, use a Get Out of Jail Free card, buy one from another player, or pay a $50 fine before you roll
  • Income Tax space: pay $200 flat or 10% of your total worth you must choose before you calculate your total
  • Luxury Tax space pay $75 to the bank with no choice involved
  • Free Parking: no reward, no penalty it is just a resting space
  • If you are sent to Jail mid-turn you do not collect $200 for passing GO on that move

Jack's Curse mode and the Halloween update

Tips
In short Jack's Curse is available in tables, custom lobbies, and the global queue and pays 1.5x Candy.

The October 16, 2026 update added a Halloween-themed map called Haunted Mansion and a new game mode called Jack's Curse. You earn Candy by completing games and collecting rent, then spend it on limited-time cosmetics from the Halloween Box, including a Mythic piece called Jack.

Tips worth knowing
  • Jack occasionally throws scrolls onto the board during Jack's Curse games
  • Jack's Curse pays out 1.5x Candy compared to a standard game
  • Jack's Curse is available in tables, custom lobbies, and the global queue
  • Candy and the Halloween cosmetics are limited-time
07

Rejoining after a disconnect

Warn
In short You have a three-minute window to get back into a game after losing connection, but only twice per session.

As of the September 6, 2026 update, you can rejoin a game you dropped from within 180 seconds, and you are allowed to do this up to two times. If only one other player is still in the game while you are disconnected, you can still be eliminated during that window.

Worth watching out for
You have 180 seconds to rejoin after a disconnect before your spot is gone
The rejoin option works a maximum of two times per game
If just one opponent remains while you are offline, you can lose and be knocked out before you reconnect

Common questions

FAQ

What happens if I land on a property but don't want to buy it?

The bank immediately puts the property up for auction. Any player at the table can bid, and bidding can start at any price — even $1. The highest bidder pays the bank and takes the Title Deed.

Do I collect $200 for GO if a card sends me back to it?

Yes. If you pass GO normally and then draw a card that says 'Advance to GO', you collect $200 both times — once for passing and once for landing. You only collect once per crossing under normal circumstances.

What is Card Draft and how is it different from a normal game?

Card Draft is a modifier introduced on September 6, 2026. Before anyone rolls, each player gets to buy from a random selection of properties, so the board is partially claimed from the very first turn. Everything else plays out under the standard rules.

Can the bank ever go broke?

No. If the bank runs out of printed money, the banker writes the required amount on a piece of paper and uses that instead. The bank's supply is treated as unlimited.

What is Jack's Curse and how do I earn Candy?

Jack's Curse is a Halloween game mode added on October 16, 2026, available in tables, custom lobbies, and the global queue. Jack periodically throws scrolls onto the board during play. You earn Candy by completing games and collecting rent, and Jack's Curse pays out 1.5x the normal Candy rate.

What happens if I get disconnected mid-game?

You have 180 seconds to rejoin the same game, and this works up to two times per session. If only one opponent is left in the game while you are disconnected, you can be eliminated before you get back.
