Core controls every player needs to know

Check
In short Learning all five inputs — attack, heavy, ability, dash, and block — is the fastest way to stop losing fights.

Every Kaiju shares the same control layout even though their moves feel completely different. On PC, these are the keys you will use in every single fight. Console has matching buttons for each one.

  • M1 (click) your basic melee attack, chaining up to three hits; the third hit almost always ends your combo
  • Heavy attack (R on PC) slower than M1 but breaks your opponent's block bar and can be chained after an M1 combo for extra damage
  • Abilities 1–4 Kaiju-specific moves that range from attacks to movement tools; press the matching number key to use them
  • Dash (Q on PC) your dodge; timing matters more than spamming it, and it doubles as a mobility tool between fights
  • Block (F on PC) negates incoming damage until your block bar fills up and breaks; while blocking, click to deflect a projectile back without losing any block bar
  • Ultimate (V on PC) charged by dealing damage, unique to each Kaiju, and cannot be cancelled once activated

How combat systems interact

Tips
In short Understanding grabs, Anti-Team, and passives separates players who win trades from players who keep losing them.

Beyond the basic inputs, several background systems change every fight. Knowing them stops you from making mistakes that feel unfair but are actually explained by the rules.

Tips worth knowing
  • Passive abilities are always on and need no input — for example, Aquarius automatically deflects all projectiles while blocking
  • Grabs are decided by weight class: you can only pick up props or Defenders at or below your own weight class
  • Aquarius is Weight Class 4 and can grab oil tankers, helicopters, and large missiles; Timmy is Weight Class 1 and is limited to streetlamps and cars
  • Mayhem is the only Weight Class 5 Kaiju and can grab every prop on the map
  • Anti-Team triggers when more than one Kaiju attacks a single Kaiju at the same time — a damageless explosion heals the target, so stick to one-on-one fights
  • Ultimate attacks deal unique effects per Kaiju; Aquarius's Cosmic Crash, for instance, has a blind spot directly beneath the landing point
03

Playing Aquarius

Table
In short Aquarius wins at range and loses up close, so every decision you make should be about keeping distance.

Aquarius is an aerial, cosmic Weight Class 4 Kaiju built around long-range pressure. Its passive, Divine Light, automatically deflects projectiles while blocking. The moment your meter hits zero in the air, Aquarius falls slowly and is almost helpless.

Strengthhigh zoning potential; all moves have long range and a near-instant heavy attack
Strengthcan grab powerful props like tankers and nukes thanks to Weight Class 4
Strengthflight lets Aquarius chase or escape aerial Defenders that ground Kaiju cannot reach
Weaknesslowest M1 damage of any Kaiju, even lower than Timmy
Weaknessfragile health means taking a few bad hits can end a fight quickly
Weaknessno strong close-range options; melee Kaiju like Armenhammer can punish Aquarius hard
04

Aquarius in a fight

Tips
In short Stay far, keep your meter up, and use your ultimate only when you have enough distance for it to land.

These tips apply whether you are fighting other Kaiju or dealing with a Defender swarm.

Tips worth knowing
  • Use the Catalyst Comet variant to trap opponents, then follow up with Astral Barrage while they are pinned
  • When flying, use Astral Barrage's aerial variant to ram into enemies as a surprise attack
  • Against flying Defenders, Starlight Beam knocks them out of the sky; Reach the Stars helps you recover speed and mobility when struggling against the Defender army or a running Defender Kaiju
  • Against crowds of Defenders, normal Astral Barrage covers more area than the variant — save the variant for when you need to hold enemies in place
  • Never let your flight meter reach zero while airborne; Aquarius loses meter over time when flying, so Starlight Beam is best for recharging or prolonging flight
  • Your ultimate attack does not hit targets directly under you, meaning it only works at a distance
05

Free Roam progression and transformations

Step
In short Destroy buildings to earn levels, spend skill points on your weakest stats, and unlock transformations before you attempt the harder bases.

Free Roam is an open-world mode where Kaiju level up by destroying cities. You can reach up to level 600, and every level gives one skill point to spend on health, damage, speed, armor, or energy. Defenders cannot level up in this mode. When your energy bar runs out, you lose access to abilities, dashes, and your ultimate — only basic melee attacks still work.

  1. Destroy buildings and city props each one feeds XP toward your next level and a skill point
  2. Spend skill points on stats that match your playstyle damage types split into physical and special in Free Roam, so adding points to one type boosts every move of that type
  3. Unlock transformations by reaching the required level and paying coins Yowai at level 65 costs 400 coins, Kyojin at level 150 costs 1,000 coins, Daikaiju at level 275 costs 2,500 coins, and Hakai-ju at level 500 costs 4,500 coins
  4. Press T while charging energy to activate a transformation it boosts all stats and heals you, which is especially useful mid-raid
  5. Work through bases in order of difficulty South Base has no level requirement, Central Base recommends level 100, North Base recommends level 200, and Area 52 recommends level 300
06

Base raiding strategies

Warn
In short Clear outside turrets and mortars first every time, and never try North Base or Area 52 alone.

Each base in Free Roam has turrets and mortars that can drain your health quickly if you rush in without a plan. The tips below apply across all bases, with specific notes where bases behave differently.

Worth watching out for
Always destroy turrets on the outer edges before moving inside ignoring them means taking fire from all directions at once
At Central Base, the mortars sit at the four corners and can be hit with projectiles from outside the walls; take them out before entering
At Central Base, medium turrets explode on defeat instead of healing you unlike South Base, where they restore health when destroyed
North Base and Area 52 are very difficult to clear alone; form a raid group with other players
Use explosive props oil tankers and other throwables on the map deal large damage to turrets
Listen for mortar fire sounds; when you hear one, dodge first and attack second
07

Missions and their rewards

Summary
In short Daily and weekly missions earn you coins, war bonds, and crates; Mastery missions earn you permanent cosmetics tied to a specific Kaiju.

There are three mission types in the game. Timed missions (daily and weekly) reset on a schedule and pay out currency and crates. Mastery missions are longer challenges tied to a single Kaiju and pay out exclusive looks and chat titles.

  • Daily missions reset every 24 hours at 7:00 PM Eastern Time and reward coins, war bonds, and crates
  • Weekly missions reset every seven days and offer the same reward types as daily missions
  • Mission refresh spend coins to swap a mission you do not want, or use the one free daily spin to get a different one
  • Mastery missions complete every Mastery mission for a specific Kaiju to earn that Kaiju's Wrath chroma, a Master title, and additional unique titles
  • XP buff timer check the bottom of the Free Roam main menu or the character menu to see how long a buff lasts
  • Coin buff timer check the right side of the Settings tab to see the remaining time on any active coin buff
08

Redeeming codes

Step
In short Codes are case-sensitive and found in the game description and the official AOK Discord server — enter them in the Shop tab before they expire.

Codes give rewards ranging from currency and XP buffs to cosmetics. New codes are added to mark milestones like visit counts and Discord membership goals, and some codes are temporary, so redeem them as soon as you spot one.

  1. Open the Shop select the shopping cart icon to open the Shop tab
  2. Go to Cosmetics scroll to the very bottom of the Cosmetics tab to find the code entry field
  3. Enter your code and press Go codes are case-sensitive, so match uppercase and lowercase exactly
  4. Success a notification appears near the center of your screen and a sound plays
  5. Failure a buzzer sounds, meaning the code is expired, already used, or typed incorrectly

Common questions

FAQ

What is the difference between Classic Mode and Free Roam?

Classic Mode is round-based — you pick a character and fight until the round ends. Free Roam is open-world, where Kaiju can level up to 600 by destroying cities and spend skill points on their stats, while Defenders play the same as they do in Classic and cannot level up.

Where do I find new codes?

Check the game's own description page and the official Attack on Kaiju Discord server, where codes are posted when milestones are reached. Some codes are temporary, so enter them quickly once you find one.

What happens if Aquarius runs out of flight meter in the air?

Aquarius begins falling slowly and cannot act effectively while dropping. Starlight Beam is best for recharging or prolonging flight meter, and you should land before it reaches zero if you cannot top it up.

How do I swap a daily mission I do not want?

You can spend coins to manually replace any timed mission. There is also one free spin available each day that swaps the mission for a different one at no cost.
