Be an Anomaly or Guard drops you into a backrooms-themed facility where one team of guards fights to contain the threat while the other side plays as powerful anomalies with unique abilities. This guide covers both sides of the fight, how weapons and armor unlock for guards, how anomaly abilities and upgrades work, and what to know about events and the map.
In shortGuards and anomalies play completely differently, so your approach changes depending on which side you land on.
Every round splits players between guards and anomalies. Guards earn better weapons and armor by dealing damage to anomalies, while anomalies rely on their built-in abilities. When an anomaly is taken down, a different player is chosen to fill that role at the same spot, so the anomaly threat never truly ends.
Guards
gear up with weapons and armor and work together to contain anomalies inside the facility
Anomalies
free playable characters, each with unique base stats and a distinct playstyle
Anomaly replacement
when an anomaly is defeated, another player is selected to take its place at that location
SCP-999
the one anomaly that fights alongside guards rather than against them, and can be harmed by the other anomalies
In shortWeapon and armor slots open permanently once you hit the required damage total, so every hit you land counts toward your next unlock.
All new guards start with the Uzi as their default weapon. Better weapons and armor unlock automatically and permanently when you reach a certain amount of total damage dealt to anomalies — that damage is tracked, not spent. Keep fighting to push your total higher.
Deal damageevery point of damage you deal to any anomaly counts toward your lifetime total
Hit the thresholdonce you reach the required amount the unlock happens automatically, no purchase needed
Check new gearunlocked weapons and armor each have their own stats and mechanics, so try them out
Use Blue Armor when availableit adds 500 HP for two minutes and can only be obtained from a Supply Drop

In shortThe Dual Minigun drops from Supply Drops almost every time, but the Neon Uzi is extremely rare.
Supply Drops are the only way to get the Dual Minigun, the Neon Uzi, and the Blue Armor. Check the drop chances before deciding how much effort to put into chasing one.

Every anomaly and what makes each dangerous
Tips
In shortKnowing what each anomaly can do helps you survive as a guard and get more out of each character as an anomaly player.
There are eight playable anomalies. All of them are free to play. Each has a different health pool, speed, and set of abilities — some are purely offensive, and SCP-999 is built entirely around supporting guards.
Tips worth knowing
Smile Room is a Keter-class anomaly with its own dedicated containment chamber.
The Boiled One moves slowly normally but becomes fast while invisible, and its passive gaze slows and damages nearby guards over time.
Ao Oni is a Euclid-class anomaly that can disguise itself using Mimicry and gains damage reduction while disguised.
SCP-173 deals 999 damage per half-second but freezes in place whenever a guard looks directly at it — though it can teleport over large distances during that window.
The Locust has 10,000 HP and enters a rage state once its damage meter fills, going from zero movement speed to very fast.
SCP-682 has the highest health of any anomaly at 12,000 HP and gains damage reduction plus movement speed when it drops below half health.
SCP-999 has only 2,500 HP, deals no damage, and uses abilities to heal and buff guards — it can also be killed by the other anomalies.
Guilt is a Keter-class anomaly with multiple attack modes: touching a guard deals 50 damage per second, while its Showerhead and Singler abilities can deal 999 damage or near-instant kills.
06
Class upgrades at level 4
Step
In shortReaching level 4 on any anomaly unlocks a passive trait and a new active ability that can change how the character plays entirely.
Each anomaly has a Class Upgrade path. When you hit level 4, you unlock exclusive passive traits and a new active ability.
Play through levels 2 and 3earlier levels also bring improvements, such as SCP-682 gaining damage reduction at level 2 or Ao Oni switching its Minigun at level 3
Reach level 4this is when the Class Upgrade unlocks, giving you both a passive trait and a new active ability
Examples of level 4 abilitiesSCP-173 gains Paralyzing Terror to terrify up to three guards within 40 studs; Guilt gains Remorse to send slash pulses hitting 33% of max HP each; SCP-999 gains a Protective Bubble that blocks one hit for itself and its attached host
07
Map awareness for both sides
Check
In shortKnowing which rooms have no cameras gives anomaly players a natural hiding advantage and warns guards where their vision cuts out.
The facility is made up of 15 areas including hallways, corridors, and dedicated containment chambers. Camera coverage is not equal across the map — three anomaly rooms have none at all.
SCP-173's room has no cameras, except in the Lookout room
Ao Oni's room has no cameras
Guilt's room has no cameras
Hallway 1 has two TVs, unlike other hallways which have one
SCP-173, SCP-682, and Smile Room each have their own dedicated containment chambers
The Keter Zone contains two Euclid-class anomaliesSCP-173 and Ao Oni — alongside Keter-class ones
08
In-game events
Summary
In shortEvents give you a reason to group up with other players and can reward Credits, XP, or special gear.
Events push players to form groups. Some are triggered by developers or admins, while the Light Out event happens on its own and is the most common one you will encounter.
Light Out the most common event; the facility goes dark and SCP-999 appears in the darkness
Supply Drop drops the Dual Minigun at 99% or the Neon Uzi at 1%
Backrooms Event triggered by developers or admins, features Guilt as the boss; Gold Almond Water is difficult to earn here because Guilt has very high health and the time to defeat it is limited
Nuke Event similar to the Backrooms Event but sends a global message to all players on the server
Event rewards completing events can grant Credits, XP, or new tools
09
Rules that get you banned
Warn
In shortExploiting results in a permanent ban with no appeal, so play the game as intended.
The game's own description states explicitly that anyone caught exploiting will be permanently banned and cannot appeal that decision. Server restarts are normal and signal bug fixes or an update rather than anything wrong on your end.
Worth watching out for
Using exploits or cheat tools results in a permanent ban with no way to appeal
If the server restarts suddenly, wait a moment and rejoinit means bug fixes or an update just went live

Common questions
FAQ
What happens when an anomaly is defeated?
Another player is selected to take that anomaly's place at the same location in the facility. The anomaly threat continues without a break.
Do I need to spend anything to unlock better weapons?
No money or in-game currency is spent. Weapons and armor unlock automatically and permanently once you reach the required total damage dealt to anomalies.
Which rooms should guards be most careful in?
SCP-173's room (outside the Lookout area), Ao Oni's room, and Guilt's room all have no cameras, so guards have no remote visibility there.
Is SCP-999 useful if it cannot attack?
Yes. SCP-999 heals allies with Regeneration Waves, boosts guard damage output, and at level 4 can project a Protective Bubble that blocks one hit for itself and whoever it is attached to.
What is the best way to get rare Supply Drop items?
The Dual Minigun drops 99% of the time from a Supply Drop. The Neon Uzi has only a 1% drop chance, making it the rarest weapon available from Supply Drops.
