About

Overview

NYC Subway: Automated puts you inside a condensed, fictional version of New York City's IRT lines, where self-driving trains run on their own schedules across three lines and more than a dozen stations. You can ride as a passenger, dispatch trains as a Platform Controller, or drive them yourself as a Conductor. This guide covers how to get started, how the lines work, what each role does, and how to earn the game's badges.

Getting started at 207th Street

Step
In short 207th Street is the best place to begin because both the 1 and 2 lines stop there and trains pass through frequently.

When you first join you automatically earn the Welcome Aboard badge. Most players spawn at 207th Street, which sits at the southern edge of the Rector borough and gives you access to both the 1 Local and 2 Express right away. Open the in-game map from your screen to see how all three lines connect before you board anything.

  1. Open the map check which stations are white circles (local and express service) and which are black circles (local only) so you know what the 2 train will skip.
  2. Find an elevator use one at 207th Street to move between floors and pick up the Elevate badge.
  3. Board any arriving train the network runs itself, so just step onto the platform and wait; a train will come.
  4. Watch the eastern time clock a clock in the bottom-left corner tells you whether rush hour is active, which changes how the 2 line runs.

Three roles and what each one does

Table
In short Pick the role that matches what you want to do — sightseeing, badge hunting, or hands-on train operation.

Every server offers all three roles. Private servers automatically give everyone the Conductor role, so if you want to drive without buying a gamepass, that is the place to do it.

Passengerride any train on any line, no purchase required; visiting every active station in one session earns Transit Tour.
Platform Controllerstand on a platform and dispatch trains; reaching 50 dispatches earns the Dispatching Final Boss badge.
Conductordrive trains yourself using door controls, gap fillers at Financial District, and voice announcements on supported rolling stock; requires the Conductor gamepass for 98 Robux in public servers.

The 1 and 2 lines

Summary
In short The 1 covers every open station while the 2 skips most of them during normal service.

Both lines run at all times. The 1 calls at all 12 stations on the Seventh Avenue Line. The 2 is an express that stops at fewer stations during off-peak hours but can run as a local with 12 stops during late nights or when a conductor manually sets it that way. During real-time morning and evening rush hours the 2 skips Second Avenue and uses the middle track at 207th Street for peak-direction trains.

  • 1 Line (Local) runs from Rector Street to Rose Street, stops at all 12 Seventh Avenue Line stations, operates at all times.
  • 2 Line (Express) runs from Dutch Rill Boulevard to Rose Street, stops at 7 stations during normal service or up to 12 as a late-night local.
  • Shuttle Line added in Version 1.1, connects at Lincoln Center and runs to Grand Central across 3 stations.
  • 3 Line currently suspended; Broadway and East 229th Street stations are closed until a future update restores and extends the line.
  • Lincoln Center the transfer hub between the 1, 2, and Shuttle, and currently holds the most exits of any station in the game.

Badges you can earn on your own schedule

Check
In short Most badges just need patience or timing — none of the self-earnable ones require buying anything.

These badges depend only on what you do in the game or when you log in. None require an administrator to be present.

  • Elevate use any elevator at an elevator-equipped station to change floors.
  • Transit Tour visit every currently active station in a single session; attempt this soon, since the badge gets harder as more stations are added.
  • Winter Weather log in while real New York City is snowing; the game mirrors live NYC weather.
  • Thunder Trouble log in while a real NYC thunderstorm is happening; same live-weather system.
  • Holiday Spectacle during a major holiday such as Christmas, New Year's, Independence Day, or Halloween, take a train over the 207th Street bridge at night to see the themed lighting.
  • Stinky Cargo spot an R134 garbage train; one spawns with a 1-in-5 chance each regen cycle.
  • Easter Already Passed find a hidden easter egg beneath the glow-in-the-dark tracks at night, under a layer of blue.
  • Hey, T/O! type the emote /e wave while near an NPC train operator.
  • Dispatching Final Boss dispatch 50 trains total as a Platform Controller at any station.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All fill your Journal to 100% by boarding every type of train.
05

Admin-event badges and rare trains

Warn
In short Some of the rarest badges are only available when an administrator is actively running a special train in your server.

Keep an eye on who is in your server. When an administrator spawns a special train, it is your only window for the badges below.

Worth watching out for
R110A badge board an R110A while an admin is running one; this train does not spawn on its own.
TRC-1 badge board a fictional TRC-1 during an admin run; same condition applies.
Redbird (R33) badge this train no longer exists in the game and cannot be spawned by admins, so the badge has been unobtainable since December 5, 2025.
The Party Train badge the Party Train was removed from the game as of December 22, 2025, so this badge is also no longer obtainable.

Making the most of rush hour and live weather

Tips
In short Real-world time and real New York City weather shape what happens in the game, so knowing when to log in matters.

The game tracks Eastern Time and live NYC weather, both of which change what you can see and which badges you can earn.

Tips worth knowing
  • Log in during real NYC snow to earn Winter Weather; log in during a real NYC thunderstorm for Thunder Trouble.
  • For Holiday Spectacle, wait until night inside the game during a major US holiday, then ride over the 207th Street bridge.
  • A ship passes under the Garrett Goble Memorial Gate Bridge every 1.5 real-time hours.
  • The in-game clock in the bottom-left corner shows Eastern Time, so you can tell at a glance whether rush hour has started.
07

Journal and rarer rolling stock

Tips
In short Filling the Journal means boarding every train type in the game.

The Journal records every distinct train you board. Reaching 100% completion earns Gotta Catch 'Em All, one of the rarest badges in the game with very few holders.

Tips worth knowing
  • The R110A counts toward your Journal and can only be boarded during admin events.
  • The R142A is noted as rare on the 1 line.
  • Check each regen cycle for the R134 garbage train — it has a 1-in-5 spawn chance and spotting it earns Stinky Cargo.

Platform Controller
A player role where you stand on a platform and send trains on their way; dispatching 50 trains earns a badge.
Conductor
A player role that lets you drive a train yourself, including door controls and announcements; requires a 98 Robux gamepass in public servers.

Aventa Yard
The train yard where all southbound trains spawn and where suspended 3 line trains sit during the current service shutdown.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I ride the 3 line right now?

No — the 3 line is suspended and Broadway station is closed. The developers plan to bring it back in a future update with a full extension, but no release date has been announced.

How do I unlock the Conductor role without spending Robux?

Join or create a private server. Every player in a private server automatically receives the Conductor role at no cost. In public servers the role requires the 98 Robux Conductor gamepass.

What is the fastest way to earn Transit Tour?

Visit every currently active station in a single session without leaving the game. The badge becomes harder to finish as more stations are added in future updates.

Why does the weather in the game keep changing?

The game mirrors live weather in real New York City. If it is snowing or thunderstorming in NYC right now, you will see it in the game — and those conditions also unlock the Winter Weather and Thunder Trouble badges.

How do I know when an admin event is happening?

Watch for administrators joining your server and running special trains like the R110A or TRC-1. Those events are your only chance at the corresponding badges in a public server.
