About

Overview

Match the Cards! is a two-player memory game where you and an opponent take turns flipping tiles to find matching pairs. One wrong move can end your run, so sharp memory and smart play matter.

How the game works

Step
In short The player who finds all the pairs wins.

You and your opponent alternate turns. On your turn, you flip two cards. If they match, the pair disappears from the board and you keep going. If they don't match, both cards flip back over and your opponent takes their turn.

  1. Flip two cards on your turn, pick any two face-down cards on the board.
  2. Score the pair if both cards show the same image, they are removed and you flip again.
  3. Pass the turn if the images are different, the cards go face-down again and your opponent plays.
  4. Win the board the player who finds all the pairs first wins the match.

Memory as your main weapon

Tips
In short Tracking every card your opponent flips gives you free pairs on your own turns.

Because cards flip back over after a failed attempt, your memory of where each image sits is the most powerful tool in the game. Watch every flip your opponent makes, not just your own.

Tips worth knowing
  • When your opponent flips two cards that don't match, lock in both positions and both images before the cards turn back over.
  • As the game goes on, the pool of seen cards grows for both players, so mid-game and late-game turns are where good memory pays off most.
  • Stringing successful pairs together keeps the turn in your hands and away from your opponent.
03

Keeping pairs away from your opponent

Warn
In short Don't let your opponent find the pairs.

Winning is not just about finding pairs yourself — it is also about not helping your opponent find theirs.

Worth watching out for
Avoid flipping a card whose location your opponent has already seen, because they can complete that pair the moment it is their turn.
One wrong move ends your run, so think before every flip.
04

What to check when you are stuck

Check
In short Most losing streaks come from forgetting seen cards or flipping carelessly.

If the game is not going your way, run through these checks before your next flip.

  • Have you memorized every card your opponent already flipped, including failed attempts from early in the match?
  • Are you turning over cards that give your opponent useful information they did not have before?
  • Do you have at least one confirmed pair you can go for?

Common questions

FAQ

What counts as a wrong move?

The game warns that one wrong move means game over. A mistake does not just pass the turn — it can end your run entirely.

Can I play this alone?

The game is built around facing an opponent, so head-to-head play is the core experience.
