About

Overview

Dingus is a prop-hunt game where one team of Hiders blends in with NPCs to finish tasks, while Hunters try to shoot them before time runs out. Every round, roles and the game mode are chosen, so you need to know both sides to do well. This guide covers how each role works, what the two game modes ask of you, and how to avoid the mistakes that end rounds early.

The two roles and what each one does

Table
In short Hiders and Hunters have opposite goals and need completely different approaches.

Every round you are assigned either Hider or Hunter. Hiders look identical to the NPCs filling the map and must complete all assigned tasks before time runs out. Hunters spawn looking like their normal Roblox avatar and must figure out which characters are real players.

Hiderblend in with NPCs and finish every task to win
Hunterspot and eliminate real players hiding among NPCs before time expires
Hider win conditionall required tasks completed in time
Hunter win conditiontimer expires or every Hider is eliminated
Role assignmentthe game controls this; a system prevents you from getting the same role repeatedly

Playing as a Hider

Tips
In short Looking like an NPC is not enough — you have to act like one too.

Hiders spawn with a gray skin tone and a random shirt color, which can be changed inside a hideout during the round. Your job is to finish every assigned task while making Hunters believe you are just another NPC. Red tasks are your biggest risk: they play a visible animation and trigger a visual effect that any watching Hunter will recognize immediately.

Tips worth knowing
  • Move like an NPC — stop abruptly, occasionally stand still, and avoid hugging road edges or moving too smoothly.
  • After finishing a white task, pause for a few seconds the way NPCs do before moving on.
  • If a Hunter spots you doing a red task, stop immediately and sprint to the nearest hideout rather than trying to finish it.
  • Coordinate with other Hiders using their outlines, which only you can see, to spread tasks out and avoid crowding one location.
03

Playing as a Hunter

Step
In short Accurate shooting wins rounds; careless shooting gets you removed from the game.

Hunters use aim mode to target suspects and must fire carefully, because shooting an NPC counts as a mistake. Three mistakes end your round permanently — your character is frozen in a sobbing animation on the spot while you become a spectator.

  1. Enter aim mode hold Left Shift on keyboard or L2 on a gamepad to start aiming.
  2. Check line of sight if the target is behind a wall or out of range, the shot fails with a sound cue, so reposition before firing.
  3. Watch for red task animations a player doing a red task plays a unique animation; that is your clearest confirmation of a Hider.
  4. Manage your mistake count the first and second NPC shots earn a 10-second stun each; the third one removes you from the round entirely.
04

The two game modes

Table
In short Refreshed and Deposit reward different strategies, so knowing which mode you are in changes how you approach tasks.

Each round, the mode is picked randomly. Both modes require Hiders to complete tasks and end when either the timer runs out, all Hiders are eliminated, or Hiders finish their objectives.

Refreshedfill a progress bar by completing tasks; red tasks give several points at once but mark you visibly to all Hunters for a few seconds and lock you out of hideouts while marked
Depositcomplete assigned tasks shown on your left side of the screen, then deposit them at a purple deposit point to score; hovering over a task shows its location
Red tasks in Depositcompleting one triggers a random effect on Hunters
Hider task listhidden from Hunters in both modes
Time limitif it expires before Hiders complete and deposit everything, Hunters win regardless of progress
05

Hideouts and when to use them

Tips
In short Hideouts are your escape route when you are spotted, but in Refreshed mode a red task locks you out temporarily.

Every map has one or two hideouts where discovered Hiders can take cover. In the Refreshed game mode, completing a red task marks you for a short time and blocks hideout access during that window, so timing matters.

Tips worth knowing
  • In Refreshed mode, do not start a red task if a Hunter is nearby — you will be marked and unable to reach the hideout right after.
  • In the Store on the Classic map, the hideout entrance is in the third aisle; avoid lingering near the cashier since few NPCs go there.
  • Sprinting straight to a hideout the moment a Hunter sees you is better than trying to act innocent after being caught.
06

Votekick rules

Warn
In short Votekick has strict limits, and abusing it can stop you from using it at all.

Votekick lets players remove someone who is ruining the game, but several restrictions apply. To start a votekick, type !votekick followed by the player's name in chat.

Worth watching out for
You must have a verified email, phone number, or ID on your Roblox account to start a votekick.
You cannot start a votekick if you joined the server too recently.
You cannot votekick a player who also joined very recently, unless they already have enough eliminations.
After a votekick succeeds or fails, you are placed on a cooldown before you can start another one.
Asking developers or contributors to give you the Worldbuilder badge outside of the game results in a ban.

Common questions

FAQ

How do I know if I'm doing a red task or a white task?

Red tasks are marked with an exclamation point in the task list. They also play a unique animation and trigger a visible effect when completed, neither of which happens with white tasks.

Can I change my shirt color as a Hider?

Yes, but only from inside a hideout during a round.

What does the Worldbuilder badge require?

You have to meet a developer or contributor of the game inside Dingus itself. Contacting developers outside the game to ask for the badge will get your account banned.
