Getting started with bot matches
StepThe game offers 19 bots ranging from Beginner to Master, all powered by the Vortex chess engine. If chess is new to you, start at the lowest difficulty and focus on how each piece moves. Once moves feel natural, pick a time control and step into rated games.
- Choose the Beginner bot to learn how pieces move.
- Pick a time control select from nine options before your first rated game.
- Enter a rated game switch to online play against a real opponent.
The nine time controls
TableEach time control has its own leaderboard, so your Bullet rank and your Rapid rank are tracked separately. Bullet games are over quickly, Blitz moves at a moderate pace, and Rapid gives you more time to think through your moves.
| Bullet | extremely short time limit. |
| Blitz | moderate pace. |
| Rapid | the longest thinking time of the three main formats. |
| Leaderboards | four separate rankings exist: Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, and Puzzles. |
Reading your game review

Common questions
FAQDo wins against bots count toward the win badges?
No — every win badge requires victories in rated games against real players. Bot matches do not move your badge counter.
Can a complete beginner play RoChess!?
Yes. The 19-bot ladder starts at Beginner level, so you can learn how each piece moves in low-pressure games before ever facing a real opponent.
How many leaderboards are there?
There are four leaderboards: Bullet, Blitz, Rapid, and Puzzles. Your scores in each category are tracked separately.
What should I do if a redeem code does not work?
The code has either passed its expiry date or was already used on your account, since each code can only be redeemed once. Check the game's official page or official group for a current working code.
