About

Overview

Terminal is a puzzle escape room where you and up to four friends fight through a chain of life-or-death scenarios — a runaway train, a collapsed tunnel, a hidden bunker, a research lab, and more — while unravelling the sinister secret behind it all. This guide walks you through picking the right difficulty, surviving each stage, working as a team, and getting unstuck when a puzzle refuses to budge.

Choosing your difficulty before you start

Table
In short Pick Beginner if anyone in your group is new to escape rooms; switch to Standard once you want a real challenge.

Before the game puts you into any stage, you choose between two difficulty settings. Beginner Mode rebuilds every puzzle from the ground up to be more accessible, which makes it the right call for younger players or anyone who has never played an escape room before. Standard Mode keeps the puzzles at full difficulty and is where the game gets genuinely tough.

Beginnerpuzzles are completely reworked to be easier and more accessible
Standardoriginal, harder puzzles intended for experienced players

Getting ready before the first stage

Check
In short A little preparation before you hit Start saves a lot of frustration once the timer is running.

There are a few things worth sorting out before anyone clicks Start. The game itself recommends keeping a pencil and paper close by, because you will find numbers, letters, and clues that are easy to forget mid-puzzle. If you are playing with others, agree on how many people are joining and make sure everyone is ready before the session begins.

  • Have a pencil and paper within reach the game officially recommends it
  • Confirm your group size; the game supports one to five players

Stage order and what to expect

Step
In short Every stage swaps out the setting but keeps the same core loop: search everywhere, note everything, piece it together.

Terminal runs through a sequence of distinct stages, each with its own environment and set of puzzles. The story of who set all this up gets revealed piece by piece as you go. Beginner Mode covers the same stages and the same story as Standard — the puzzles are just redesigned, not cut.

  1. Runaway train escape before it crashes
  2. Abandoned train tunnel find your way through
  3. Underground bunker work through the puzzles hidden in the mysterious facility
  4. Research lab escape before the sprinklers activate
  5. Headquarters and beyond face the later stages that push toward the truth behind Leisterez
04

Failure badges and what they tell you

Warn
In short Every stage has a failure condition with its own badge, so learning what ends a stage early is just as important as knowing what solves it.

Terminal awards badges for both success and failure on each stage. That means every stage has a specific way to lose, not just a way to win. On the train you can be caught in the crash; in the elevator section the wires can snap before you get out; in the lab the sprinklers can go off while you are still inside.

Worth watching out for
If the train crashes with you inside, you earn the failure badge and the stage ends
If the elevator wires snap before you exit, you drop to the bottom of the shaft
If the sprinklers activate in the lab before you escape, the stage is over

Common questions

FAQ

Can I play Terminal alone?

Yes, the game supports one to five players. Solo play is fully available, though the developers recommend playing in a group for the best experience.

Does Beginner Mode skip any of the story?

No. Beginner Mode covers all the same stages as Standard and tells the same story. Only the puzzles are redesigned to be easier — nothing is cut out.

Is a pencil and paper really worth it?

The game itself recommends it. Writing things down as you find them stops you from losing information you will need later.

What happens if I fail a stage?

You earn a failure badge specific to that stage.

How long is Season 1?

Season 1 runs through multiple stages — train, tunnel, bunker, lab, headquarters, and more. Beating the final stage of Season 1 earns the Full Circle badge.
