Choosing your faction
TableAt the start of the game you choose between Shinigami, Arrancar, Quincy, and Fullbringer. Each faction has its own abilities, armor, cosmetics, and home world. You cannot trade race-specific accessories to players in other factions, and drops from other factions will not appear for you. The only ways to switch faction are a Soul Ticket, which wipes all your progress, or a Hollow Essence, which converts you into an Arrancar starting form only.
| Shinigami | sword-based fighter that upgrades through Shikai, Bankai, and True Bankai; home world is Soul Society |
| Arrancar | uses Cero laser attacks and a Resurrection transformation; home world is Hueco Mundo |
| Quincy | fights with bows and reiatsu swords, uses Schrift and Vollstandig modes, and can access Cybernetic box equipment; home world is Wandenreich |
| Fullbringer | manipulates the souls of objects; uses Twin Souls mode; weapon is tied to your Fullbring so weapon rerolls are not available; home world is Fake Karakura Town |
Controls to memorize first
CheckThe game has a lot of keybinds, but a handful of them come up in almost every situation. Console players can find their control layout in the in-game tutorial.
- Q is your dash
- R fires a Critical hit
- Z, X, and C activate your Element or Vollstandig moveset
- T and G trigger Schrift or Element Release moves
- Ctrl + J transforms a Shinigami or Monster; Ctrl + K rips the mask for Monster-path Arrancars
- N opens your inventory and skill tree, M meditates, L opens portals for fast travel
- B is Grip or Eat if Monster; V is Carry; P is Emote; Left Alt is Shift-lock; comma key toggles map markers; M2 + M1 is Purify
Finding your hollow in the Arrancar path
TipsIf you are progressing down the Arrancar path, there is a maze section where you need to locate a specific hollow. A large enemy pursues you the entire time, and it moves faster the longer you stay. The hollow you are looking for has blue-tinted eyes — everything else can be skipped immediately.
- Keep moving and only pause long enough to check whether a hollow's eyes are blue
- If the eyes are not blue, leave that spot right away and continue searching
- Lower your graphics to level 1 and turn on fast mode using the arrow at the top left of your screen to make spotting the blue eyes easier
- Plan a route before you start rather than wandering — moving in a consistent direction, such as a wide circle from right to left, helps cover the area without backtracking
- The pursuing enemy speeds up over time, so hesitation costs more the longer the search goes on

Common questions
FAQCan I change my faction later?
You can use a Soul Ticket to restart a slot, but it erases all progress on that character. A Hollow Essence changes you into the starting stage of an Arrancar, but it cannot move you to Quincy or Shinigami. Soul Tickets are hard to get early on, though they can also be obtained from codes.
What are the five worlds in the game?
The five areas are Karakura Town (the Human World), Fake Karakura Town, Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and Wandenreich. Shinigami belong to Soul Society, Arrancars to Hueco Mundo, Quincy to Wandenreich, and Fullbringers to Fake Karakura Town. Use portals with L to travel between them.
