Getting started as a small shark
StepWhen you first spawn, you are small and easy prey for bigger sharks. Your only job at the start is to eat as many fish as possible and avoid players who are larger than you. Once you have grown enough, you can start looking for fights.
- Find small fish swim toward the smaller fish scattered around the ocean and eat them to grow.
- Stay away from large sharks if another shark is noticeably bigger than you, swim away before it reaches you.
- Keep eating every fish you eat adds to your size, so do not stop to wander.
- Gauge your size once you feel you are a similar size to other players nearby, you are ready to fight.
How Skulls work and what they are for
SummaryEvery time you eat another player, you earn Skulls. Skulls are the only way to buy skins from the shop, so fighting other players is the main path to building your collection. Trading is the other route, covered in the next section.
- Skulls earned by eating other players, spent in the skin shop.
- Starting Skulls non-Premium players begin with the base amount; Premium players start with 100 extra.
- Long-term goal even without spending real money, you can save enough Skulls to buy rare skins over time.
Collecting and trading shark skins
TipsThere are three ways to add skins to your collection.
- Buy skins directly from the shop using Skulls you have earned in matches.
- Trade skins you do not want with other players who have what you are looking for — find trading partners in the in-game chat or the group's board.
- If you have duplicate skins, use them as trade material to go after rarer ones you are missing.
- Like the game, favorite it, and join the official group to unlock a free in-game skin.
- Follow the game so you do not miss new weekly updates.
Winning fights against other players
CheckPvP comes down to size, positioning, and target selection. A fight against someone much bigger than you is almost always a loss, so being choosy about who you attack matters.
- Only challenge players who are close to your own size attacking a much larger shark is a fast way to lose.
- Use terrain and walls to break away from a chase when you are losing a fight.
- Avoid swimming into groups of players create one-on-one situations so you are not outnumbered.
- Coordinate with nearby allies when possible surrounding an enemy together wins fights faster.
- If you want to practice without the risk of being eaten, use a free private server.
Things to check when you feel stuck
CheckIf progress has slowed down, run through these checks before changing anything drastic.
- Growing too slowly make sure you are eating fish steadily and only fighting players near your own size, not skipping straight to bigger ones.
- Getting eaten constantly check whether the players you are attacking are noticeably larger; step back and grow more before engaging them.
- Cannot afford a skin revisit which enemies you are targeting for Skulls.
Staying safe while you play
WarnBe a Shark involves chatting and trading with strangers, so a few safety habits are important to keep in mind.

Common questions
FAQI keep getting eaten — how do I survive long enough to grow?
Stick to eating small fish until your size is clearly bigger. Avoid any area where large sharks are circling. Once you have grown noticeably, you will be able to hold your own against more players.
How do I find someone to trade skins with?
Use the in-game chat to let other players know what you have and what you want. You can also post in the official group to find interested traders. A trade goes through when both players have what the other wants.
Does spending real money make a big difference?
Premium membership gives you 100 extra Skulls at the start, which gives a small head start on buying skins early on. Beyond that, everything else in the game works the same for both paying and free players, and you can collect every skin either way.
