Starting your first match

Step
In short Stepping onto a platform kicks off the match, and from there your job is to place units before the first wave arrives.

When you load in, find a platform and step onto it to begin. Waves of cameras will come at you, so place your units on the map before they arrive. Watch how your units perform against the first wave to get a feel for the game.

  1. Step onto a platform this is what actually starts the match.
  2. Place units on the map click on the map with a mouse, or press R2 on a console controller.
  3. Clear the wave survive all the enemies in a wave to move on to the next one.

Where to put your units

Tips
In short Placing units along the path cameras travel is the single most important thing you can do to survive later waves.

Units sit still and attack on their own once placed, so their position on the map decides how useful they are. Cameras follow a set route, so study that route and cover it thoroughly. In co-op, splitting the map between players keeps every stretch of the enemy path defended.

Tips worth knowing
  • In co-op, divide the map so each player owns a section — full-map coverage beats piling everyone into one spot.
  • After placing a unit you can select it to open the inspect screen and check its details.

Coins and early-game spending

Check
In short Clearing each wave earns coins, and spending those coins on more units keeps later waves manageable.

Coins come in from clearing waves. Later waves are tougher, but units also become stronger over the course of a match, so the pressure evens out.

  • Are you clearing every wave cleanly, or are cameras slipping through and reducing your coin income?
  • Have you placed enough units in the early waves, before the map gets overwhelming?
  • Is your coin supply still growing, or has a failed wave left you without enough to add defenders?

AFK area and the idle loop

Table
In short The AFK area lets you earn coins while you step away, and Premium members earn them twice as fast.

Outside of active matches, there is a dedicated AFK area where your coins tick up just from standing in it. This means you can accumulate resources between sessions and return to matches better funded. Premium players earn coins at double the rate in that area, but free players still earn and can reach the same content.

Free playerearns coins in the AFK area at the standard rate.

Bothuse coins earned from AFK and from wave clears to place more units in matches.
06

Getting unstuck on a hard wave

Warn
In short Most failed waves come down to too few units or units placed where enemies don't actually walk.

When you keep losing the same wave, restart the match and treat the previous attempt as information. The route cameras took, the spots where your defense had gaps, and the point where your coins ran out all tell you what to fix.

Worth watching out for
Check whether enough units are placed on the map.
Check whether units are positioned on the path enemies actually travel.
Check whether coins ran out from failing to clear waves.

Co-op play basics

Tips
In short Splitting the map between players makes co-op much more effective than everyone defending the same spot.

Toilet Verse Tower Defense is built around playing with others, and a group of players can cover far more of the map than a solo player can.

Tips worth knowing
  • Divide the map into sections so the whole enemy path has someone watching it.
  • Even with limited coins per player, a full team placing efficiently can build a strong defense across the whole map.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I finish the game without paying for Premium?

Yes. Premium doubles your coin income in the AFK area, but the core match loop of clearing waves and spending coins on units is the same for everyone.

How do I place units on a console controller?

Press R2 to place or inspect a unit. If you want to cancel placement or close the inspect screen, press B or O.

I keep losing the same wave no matter what I do — what should I try?

Restart the match and place more units during the early waves before coins run short. Use what you observed in the failed attempt to predict exactly where cameras travel and concentrate your defense there.
