Getting started in the Library

Step

In short The moment you join for the first time, the game hands you a badge and you are ready to read or write.

Joining the game for the first time automatically gives you the 'You Joined The Library' badge. If you joined during the first month after the official launch, you received the 'Library Founder' badge instead. From there, the core loop is simple: explore the shelves, read books other players have written, and publish one of your own.

Join the game your first-time badge is awarded automatically on entry.
Explore the shelves the library holds over half a million books, so browse until something catches your eye.
Publish your first book it is always free for genuine first-time publishers who have not yet selected a color.

Your one free book — what to know before you publish

Warn

In short You only get one free book ever, and selecting a cover color counts as using it, so make that slot count.

The game guarantees your very first book is free, but two things cancel that: selecting a book color before you publish, or having published before. Once either of those has happened, the free slot is gone.

Worth watching out for

Do not select a book color until you are completely ready to publish choosing a color consumes the free slot.

The free slot applies only to your very first publication; every book after that is no longer free.

If the game is not showing your book as free, check whether you have already picked a color or published before.

Reading badges and how to reach them

Summary

In short There are three reading badges, each a milestone on a long journey, and none of them currently come with in-game perks.

The library's reading badges reward persistence. Each one has a higher threshold than the last, and with over half a million books available you will never run out of material. None of the three currently grant in-game perks, but earning them marks a genuine achievement.

Read 100 Books　read more than 100 books in the library.
Read 1,000 Books　read more than 1,000 books in the library.
Read 10,000 Books　read more than 10,000 books in the library.

Special and event badges

Check

In short Several badges are tied to specific moments in time or owner actions and cannot be earned through normal play.

Beyond reading and publishing, a handful of badges came from events or were given out directly by the game's owner. Knowing which ones are still obtainable saves you from chasing something you cannot get.

Library Founder only players who joined within the first month of official launch have this; it cannot be earned now.
10K Books awarded manually by the owner to a limited group; there is no in-game action that unlocks it, though it will come with an exclusive book cover in the future.
100K BOOKS play the game for 10 minutes to earn this badge; owners of the badge also receive a free book as a celebration reward.
April Fools 2025 Attendee tied to the April Fools 2025 event.

Bugs and what to expect

Warn

In short The game is a small spare-time project, so bugs and inconsistencies are a known part of the experience.

The developers built this game in their spare time, which means development is not on a fixed schedule and bugs can appear. The team acknowledges this upfront. If something seems broken — especially around the free book slot — check the game's DevForum page for notices.

Worth watching out for

Bugs and inconsistencies are expected and acknowledged by the developers, not signs that you did something wrong.

The DevForum page is the official place to check for known issues and development updates.

Common questions
