About

Overview

Build Defense is a Roblox game where you construct a base, set up turrets and traps, survive waves of zombies and spiders at night, and deal with natural disasters like tornadoes, meteors, and tsunamis during the day. The game also lets you mine diamonds, farm crops, and explore the world to find secrets and unlock new areas.

Your first steps in the game

Step
In short Getting a basic defense up and a resource plan sorted before the first night is the most important thing you can do.

When you join, you start on the main island. Pick a spot for your base, drop a Standard Sentry or two near the entrance, and find where you can mine before the action starts.

  1. Place your first turret the Standard Sentry is cheap and available from the start, so use it to guard your entrance.
  2. Find the mining area ore extractors placed on Stone or Grass generate stone, iron, gold, and occasionally diamonds over time.
  3. Spot a Grass block for farming Grass is the only block that lets crops grow, and sunflowers and cacti each take fifteen minutes to mature.
  4. Check the right side of the screen for the Loyalty feature claiming it gives you one free Speed Beacon as your first reward.

Turret progression and placement

Table
In short Turrets get more expensive each time you buy one of the same type, so mix different turrets rather than stacking one kind.

Every turret has a ramping cost, meaning each additional copy you place costs more than the last. The figures below show base stats; your actual damage goes up if a Damage Beacon is in range.

Traps and how to use them

Tips
In short Traps hit enemies in a small area but are cheap, making them a strong early complement to turrets.

Traps deal damage to enemies that walk over or near them. They have limited range but can clear groups of enemies. The unlock chain runs from Spikes through to Electric Fence and Incinerator, so each new trap requires the previous one.

Tips worth knowing
  • Spikes deal 50 damage and cost nothing to unlock, making them your starting option.
  • Sawblade steps up to 120 damage, and Sawblade Post reaches 200 — both require unlocking in sequence.
  • Lava and Electric Fence unlock after Sawblade, and Incinerator requires Electric Fence first.
04

Surviving daytime disasters

Warn
In short Each disaster type has a different survival method, and preparing your base structure in advance is far easier than reacting in the moment.

Disasters happen during the day and are separate from the enemy waves at night. Some kill instantly on contact, while others give you time to reach safety. Nuclear Concrete and Bunker Blocks are the only materials that can withstand player-triggered disasters like the Nuke and Hydro Bomb.

Worth watching out for
Water Flood go at least 30 blocks high, or keep jumping on the water surface to preserve your oxygen; this is the least dangerous disaster.
Lava Flood get to high ground immediately, because lava kills instantly without a Lava Suit; a Scuba Gear equipped during lava also provides protection due to a known bug.
Tsunami go higher than you would for a flood, because tsunamis reach above normal flood height; alternatively, shelter underground since the wave does not instantly kill players who are enclosed.
Tornado stay above ground and use conveyors to put as much distance as possible between yourself and the tornado; surviving one earns the Storm Chaser badge.
05

Beacons — free ones and what they do

Table
In short All three beacons can be obtained for free through specific in-game actions.

Beacons buff everything within a 30-stud radius cylinder around them. The same beacon type stacks, and the number of active stacks shows on the left side of your screen.

Damage Beaconadds 4 damage per stack to players and all damaging blocks (turrets and traps) in range; free copy requires 190 wins, then take the boat from the lighthouse pier to the island, enter the cave, and talk to the tiki statue.
Healing Beaconheals players over time per stack; free copy requires activating three green buttons around the main island.
Speed Beaconraises walking, climbing, and swimming speed by 20% per stack; free copy comes from the Loyalty feature on the right side of the screen as the first reward.
06

Exploring the world and unlocking the Nether

Step
In short Exploration is gated behind your win count, so keep surviving events and the locked areas open up naturally.

The map extends well beyond the starting area. Tiki Island, the Nether, and the Pyramid are all reachable, but each requires preparation. The Nether unlocks a new mining area and extra content.

  1. Reach 50 wins this is the minimum needed to enter the Nether portal.
  2. Get obsidian from the Pyramid obsidian can also be bought at the dock shop after you first obtain it from the Pyramid.
  3. Build the Nether portal arrange 14 obsidian blocks in a 4-wide by 5-tall vertical rectangle and the center activates automatically.
  4. Collect Tape 666 in the Nether after entering the portal, turn around and head up the hill; two ice spiders guard it.
  5. Reach 190 wins for Tiki Island take the boat from the pier near the lighthouse, then explore the island for Tape 001, the Tiki Key, and a free Damage Beacon.
  6. Use the Storage Crate to carry important items safely it holds cassette tapes, dynamite, and anything else you collect.
07

Cassette tapes and badges worth chasing

Check
In short Cassette tapes are found across the map and unlock badges when played on a Cassette Player, making them a good reason to explore.

The Cassette Player block plays any tape you have in hand without consuming it. Certain tapes trigger badges when listened to. The unlock-type badges (Lava, Sawblade Post, Incinerator, Frost Crystal, TITAN-X9, Heavy Lazer Minigun Sentry, Tesla Coil, QX Turret) come automatically when you unlock those defenses through normal progression.

  • Tape 001 found on Tiki Island (requires 190 wins); playing it awards the TAPE 001 badge.
  • Tape 666 found in the Nether up the hill past the portal entrance, guarded by two ice spiders; playing it awards the ENTITY . 666 badge.
  • Tape 005 found on the beach by the dock shop, resting on a beach towel.
  • Tape 002 obtained as a gift from the UFO.
  • Survivor badge earn it by surviving 10 events; Vigilant upgrades that to 50.
  • Going Deep badge use the deletion tool to dig three levels underground for the first time.
08

The Store button sits at the bottom right of the screen. Some codes require you to join the swiftplay group on Roblox before they work.

Common questions

FAQ

Why does my turret cost so much more than the first one I placed?

Every turret type has a cost ramp — each copy you place costs a percentage more than the last. The Standard Sentry doubles in price every time (+100%), while higher-tier turrets like the TITAN-X9 have a lower ramp (+58%).

How do I get to Tiki Island?

You need 190 wins first. Once you have them, take the boat from the pier near the lighthouse to reach the island. While you are there, look for Tape 001, the Tiki Key next to a floating eyeball at the back of the island, and the cave with a tiki statue that gives you a free Damage Beacon.

What blocks protect against the most dangerous disasters?

Nuclear Concrete and Bunker Blocks are the only blocks that can withstand player-triggered disasters like the Nuke and Hydro Bomb. For natural disasters like floods and tsunamis, aim well above 30 blocks high since tsunamis reach higher than regular floods.

Can I play without spending Robux?

The core systems of turret defense, mining, and farming all work without spending anything. All three beacon types can be obtained for free through in-game tasks. VIP servers run in peaceful mode with rewards disabled.
