Update 1
[DATE IS PLACEHOLDER] New island, new fruits, new fighting styles, 30+ new quests, new weapons, new skills, new pets, s…
Grand Blue is an open-world pirate action RPG where you sail between islands, take on quests and bosses, and build a fighter from scratch. You mix a combat style — sword, gun, or brawler — with a cursed fruit ability to shape how you play. This guide walks you through starting out, picking up your first cursed fruit for free, spending your stat points wisely, and surviving boss fights.
The Logbook holds information about the world and your objectives, so open it as soon as you load in. The quest panel on the right side of the screen shows what you should be working toward — keep it filtered to only the quests you are currently running so the list stays readable. On PC, left-click attacks, E interacts with NPCs and objects, Q dodges, F blocks, and the number keys fire off your abilities. On mobile and tablet, dedicated on-screen buttons replace those keys. When you reach a new island, talk to NPCs in the port and town before you start fighting anything.
The level ranges below are guides, not hard gates — the game will not lock you out. If enemies are taking too long to kill, go back to the previous island and run its repeatable quests until you feel stronger. Repeatable quests can be turned in and picked up again, making them the steadiest way to gain experience between story beats. Always seek out quest NPCs the moment you arrive somewhere new, because killing enemies without an active quest sometimes does not count toward your objectives.
| Anchor Town | levels 1 to 30 or so; tutorial quests and your first cursed fruit. |
| Crown Town | levels 30 to 70 or so; repeatable quest grinding is the main activity here. |
| Maple Village | level 70 and beyond; farming, cooking, and large ships open up fully here. |
Events running now or coming soon. They have fixed dates, so check them first.

Look for Calvin on the tall stone platform behind a house in Anchor Town and talk to him to start the Wizard's Apprentice quest. The quest sends you to find an old shovel near the base of that same platform — pick it up and equip it. Follow the marker the quest puts on screen and dig at the indicated spot to collect what is buried there. Return to Calvin to finish the quest, then open Calvin's Treasure from your inventory to collect your reward. The contents are random, but this is a reliable early route to securing a cursed fruit before you find any in the wild.
Cursed fruits spawn roughly every hour on trees and plants around the world. You can also pick them up from chests and vendor NPCs, so do not rely on a single method. One of the most important things to know: each fruit keeps its own skill level no matter how many times you swap away from it. That means experimenting with a new fruit costs you nothing in terms of progress on your other ones.
Spreading points evenly across every stat tends to leave all of your attacks feeling underpowered. Instead, commit to the stat that matches how you fight and top it up first, then fill in the rest. Vitality raises your maximum HP. Speed helps with movement and dodging.
Fighting multiple enemies at once quickly turns a manageable fight into a losing one, so draw them out one or two at a time whenever possible. After landing your normal attacks, be ready to block the enemy's counter rather than swinging again immediately. When a large attack winds up, dodge sideways or backward with Q rather than trying to tank it. Against bosses, spend the first phase just watching their movement patterns before committing to offence. If you cannot win, check your equipment, your ability assignments, your Vitality, and whether you have any food buffs active.
The four life skills — mining, fishing, farming, and cooking — are not optional side content. Mining and fishing give you money and crafting materials. Farming and cooking come into their own at Maple Village; food buffs from cooking give you temporary stat boosts that make hard fights noticeably easier. Ships become usable around level 30 at Anchor Town's port. When you dock at an island, drop the anchor so the ship stays put.
Grand Blue is in early access, so bugs and lag are part of the experience right now. Most common issues can be fixed in a few quick steps without waiting for a patch.
They spawn on trees and plants roughly once an hour. You can also get them from chests and vendor NPCs. If you want one right away, finish the Wizard's Apprentice quest from Calvin in Anchor Town — it hands you one directly.
No — each fruit saves its skill level independently. You can swap back to any fruit you have used before and pick up right where you left off.
Some abilities are tied to a specific weapon or combat style and will not fire if the wrong one is equipped. Check that your weapon, combat style, cursed fruit, and ability assignments all match up.
You need to accept the quest and have it active before you defeat the target. If you killed the enemy before picking up the quest, wait for it to respawn and try again with the quest running.
The early quests and all four life skills are fully accessible without spending anything. Your first cursed fruit can be earned through the Wizard's Apprentice quest in Anchor Town at no cost.
