How a match works

Step
In short Each stage runs in waves, and surviving them all earns you the resources you need to grow stronger.

Every stage puts you and up to 24 other players on a map where monsters advance toward your base. You place Undertale characters at positions on the map to intercept them. Enemies arrive in waves, and once you clear all of them the stage ends and rewards are handed out.

  1. Join a stage find a room with space, since each room holds up to 15 players at once.
  2. Place your units set your Undertale characters on the map before and between waves to cover the enemies' path.
  3. Collect your rewards finishing the stage gives you money and Souls used for upgrading and summoning.

Growing your units

Tips
In short Running level-ups and trait upgrades side by side raises a unit's power.

Resources you earn from cleared stages feed into two separate upgrade tracks. Leveling raises a unit's base stats, while trait upgrades push the character's unique abilities further.

Tips worth knowing
  • Level up a unit to improve its core performance across every fight.
  • Check the summoning screen for the exact currency name and amount before spending Souls — some similarly named materials are not the same thing.

Currency at a glance

Table
In short Money and Souls serve different purposes, so spending one where the other is needed wastes both.

The game uses two main currencies. Knowing which screen each one belongs to stops you from running dry at the wrong moment.

Moneyearned by defeating enemies during a stage; used to place and upgrade units mid-fight.
Soulsaccumulated from stage-clear rewards; spent on the summoning screen to unlock new units.
Summoning screenalways confirm the exact currency name and the amount required before you confirm a summon.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need to know the Undertale story to play?

No prior knowledge of the Undertale narrative is required to play. Focus on each unit's attack style and placement cost rather than its story background.

How many players can join one stage?

Each room holds up to 15 players at once, and a single stage can involve up to 25 players in total. Larger groups put more units on the map, making tough waves easier to survive.
