First steps when you load in

Step
In short Spending a minute with your character's moveset before entering the arena saves you a lot of early deaths.

Use that time to open your character selection and scroll through the free main roster before you commit to a fight. Once you have picked someone, test their moves somewhere safe so you get a feel for range and attack speed. Only then should you head into the arena.

  1. Open character select tap the head icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.
  2. Browse the free main roster several characters are available to everyone from the start, so look at all of them.
  3. Test moves in a safe spot throw out attacks away from other players to get a feel for each skill's reach.
  4. Enter the arena once you have a sense of your moveset, jump into the fight.

How to grow your roster for free

Tips
In short Defeating the Cursed Child boss and reacting quickly to world events are the two best ways to unlock new characters without spending Robux.

The main roster is free, but extra characters are worth chasing because each one plays differently. Two reliable free paths exist: hitting kill milestones and taking on world events. Cursed Child is the most direct boss target — defeating it unlocks the character and hands you two emotes at the same time.

Tips worth knowing
  • Every 50 kills you earn one emote, so normal play rewards you over time.
  • Defeating the Cursed Child boss unlocks it as a playable character and gives you two emotes at once.
  • Entering a Conquest Portal when it appears on the map unlocks a character called The Conquered.
  • Investigating a meteor after it lands unlocks a character called Meaty Michael.
  • Early-access characters require a game pass purchase, so those are the only characters that need Robux.

World events — Conquest Portals and meteors

Check
In short World events are your fastest route to hidden characters, so keep half an eye on the map at all times.

Two types of world events appear randomly on the map. Both events reward you with a character you cannot get any other way.

  • Step inside the Conquest Portal to unlock The Conquered.
  • Reach the meteor's landing site and investigate it to unlock Meaty Michael.
  • Crossover events have appeared before and can bring limited bosses and exclusive movesets check the official community for announcements.
04

Emote types and how to use them

Table
In short Traversable emotes are the more practical pick because you can keep moving while they play.

Emotes open with B on PC or the emote button on mobile. There are two distinct types. A Traversable emote lets you walk around while the animation runs. Static emotes lock you in place for a dance.

Traversableplays while you move; examples include Miohonda and Flight.
Staticlocks you in place; examples include Smooth Criminal and Gambler.
Kill milestone rewardone emote for every 50 kills.
Boss rewardtwo emotes for defeating Cursed Child.
Direct purchaseany emote can also be bought with Robux.

When you keep losing — things to check

Check
In short Most losing streaks come down to not knowing your own moveset or walking into multi-player pile-ups.

Free-for-all arenas punish players who stand in the middle of a crowd. If you are dying repeatedly, the cause is almost always one of a short list of fixable habits.

  • Do you know your character's moveset range and startup speed every character feels different, and guessing wrong gets you punished.
  • Are you fighting more than one enemy at a time early on start near the edge of the arena and try to find one-on-one situations.
  • Are you spending your Awakening gauge at random save it for moments when you can land the hit cleanly.
  • Are you blocking and dodging or just attacking surviving longer comes from reacting to your opponent's moves, not just throwing your own.
  • Is the same character beating you repeatedly adjust your distance and timing specifically against that moveset.

Common questions

FAQ

Can you get far in this game without spending Robux?

Yes. The free main roster gives you several characters right away, and you can unlock more through kills, boss fights, and world events. Robux is only needed if you want early-access characters ahead of everyone else.

Where does the Cursed Child boss spawn?

Cursed Child appears in the boss arena area within the map. Defeating it unlocks the character and rewards two emotes.

Why does the Write emote not show any text?

Roblox's chat restrictions mean the text only appears for accounts that have completed age verification using ID or a selfie. Once that verification is done, the emote works as intended.

Is there an area to take a break from fighting?

There is an arcade area with retro mini-games including Pong, Tetris, and Pac-Man.
