Choosing your team

Table
In short Each team fights in a completely different way, so pick based on the style you enjoy.

There are three teams: Aliens, Predators, and Marines. You can join all three faction servers, but you are a full member of only one — the other two treat you as a guest.

Aliensevolve through a lifecycle, heal by retreating to the Hive, and win through ambush and numbers
Predatorsthe Nightblood Clan faction gives members 1.25× damage, 150 extra HP, custom masks, and a free combistick
Marinesthe only human team; survive by coordinating with squadmates and using the widest weapon selection in the game

Getting started as a Marine

Step
In short Marines live or die by positioning and teamwork, so learn your role early.

Marines have seven weapon classes, each built around a distinct playstyle rather than a straight upgrade path. The Pulse Rifle is your default and handles most situations.

  1. Start with the Pulse Rifle it has high recoil and is effective in most combat situations
  2. Pick up the Smartgun when you need crowd control in open areas, but it is vulnerable in close-quarters ambushes
  3. Use the Flamethrower against Facehuggers, Drones, and Runners it can be bought with Royal Jelly for a single life if you do not own the gamepass
  4. Play Engineer to weld doors shut for 1 minute to slow Alien advances; a Crusher can breach a welded door
  5. Bring a Medic into longer fights each medkit heals a teammate once
  6. As a Grenadier, cook grenades before throwing, and remember you can survive detonating one in your own hand at the cost of a quarter of your health

Alien evolution and healing

Tips
In short Staying alive long enough to evolve is the entire early game for Aliens.

Aliens start fragile and grow powerful through kills. Every evolution beyond Drone, Runner, and Predalien requires a set number of kills.

Tips worth knowing
  • After maturing into a Drone or Runner, you can use the hive's molting walls to evolve further
  • Every evolution beyond Drone, Runner, and Predalien requires a set number of kills — higher tiers demand more
  • Drone and Warrior can wall-climb by pressing Right Shift or Middle Mouse Button
  • Aliens have no healing item — return to the Hive to regenerate health, except when playing Praetorian, whose Roar ability restores health
  • Use vents, walls, and dark areas to set up ambushes rather than fighting in the open
04

Special forms worth chasing

Step
In short Three rare forms require specific setups, but each opens up a completely different playstyle.

Beyond the standard evolution tree, three unusual forms are available: the Predalien, the Neomorph, and the Queen. Each has its own route and limits.

  1. Neomorph begin as a Marine, travel to the planet surface, find Spores under trees, and walk into one to transform; there is a server cap of four Neomorphs at a time, and spores respawn on a 15-minute cooldown
  2. Neomorph combat use Claw Slash for quick melee, Spin (Q) to hit multiple enemies with your tail, and the Finisher (E) to instantly kill a low-health human; Heal (R) restores 60% HP but cannot be used in combat
  3. Neomorphs are immune to Spitters and Bursters, cannot wall-climb, and are hostile to every in-game team
  4. Queen evolve to Praetorian, then molt naturally; the Queen can lay eggs every minute, send attack orders to all Aliens, and control NPCs through the Queen Menu
05

Common questions

FAQ

Can I join all three factions at once?

You can join all three faction servers, but you hold full membership in only one — the other two count you as a guest.

How do I heal as an Alien?

Aliens have no healing item, so you need to retreat to your Hive and let health regenerate there. The one exception is the Praetorian, whose Roar ability restores health without needing to return to the Hive.

What happens if all four Neomorph slots are taken?

There is a hard cap of four Neomorphs per server. If that limit is already reached, touching a Spore will not transform you. Spores themselves have a 15-minute respawn cooldown.
