First steps from nymph to worker

Step

Every player starts as a nymph, which cannot attack and moves the slowest of any role. Your only job at this stage is to fill the bar at the bottom of the screen up to the first icon. Once it reaches that icon, press it and then press 'Play as' to become a worker.

  1. Pick a mound press Play and join either mound when you load in.
  2. Speed up the bar when another player offers you food, press E on PC or tap the eat button on mobile to fill the bar faster.
  3. Become a worker press the first icon once the bar reaches it, then confirm with 'Play as'.
  4. Find leaves head outside the nest and collect the brown leaves scattered near trees.
  5. Eat and drink press E near a fungus comb or water source to keep hunger and thirst from dropping.
  6. Place your first fungus comb eat enough leaves to fill the fungus bar, then place it in a dark underground spot; you get 10 leaves immediately.

Fungus comb management

Step

Fungus combs are the only food source for termites. They degrade over time — when they turn grey, food production slows and eventually stops. Combs exposed to open air produce half as much food, and during the sunburn period they lose food on top of that. Workers are the only non-royal caste that earn leaves for tending them.

  1. Eat leaves to fill the fungus bar, then place the comb underground in the dark this gives you a level 1 comb with 40 food storage.
  2. Fill the bar again and place a second comb directly on top of the first to merge them into a level 2 comb with 80 food storage.
  3. Repeat once more to reach level 3 with 120 food storage and faster production.
  4. Tend the comb regularly press T on PC or the feed button on mobile to maintain it before it turns grey.
  5. If a comb goes fully grey and is left alone it stops producing food and disappears after about 30 seconds.

What each caste does best

Summary

Each caste has a clearly different role.

  • Worker fastest digger and builder; the only non-royal that earns leaves from tending fungus combs; avoid all combat.
  • Minor Soldier fast and can dig; skilled players can beat an Assassin Bug one-on-one.
  • Major Soldier longest reach and highest damage of the soldier castes when fully upgraded; very slow and cannot dig, so watch out for holes.
  • King does nearly everything a worker can plus deals strong melee damage; main job is defending the nest and managing the colony alongside the queen.
  • Alate can fly after a swarm is called; cannot fly below half health.
  • Assassin Bug hostile to both mounds; uses camouflage on termite dirt and charges heavy bites for massive damage; teaming with a mound is against the rules.

Combat basics and defense

Tips

Combat uses normal bites with LMB and charged bites by holding LMB for about three seconds. Stamina runs out when you sprint and sprint-attack repeatedly; hitting zero stamina slows your walk speed. Defense is built with dirt walls and deep trenches that funnel attackers into chokepoints.

Tips worth knowing
  • Hold LMB for a full charge before releasing to deal far more damage than a normal bite.
  • Aim for the enemy's abdomen to increase the damage you deal.
  • Hit the same leg repeatedly to inflict a leg injury, which slows the target by roughly 25%.
  • Workers should run immediately when threatened — use dug holes to lose enemies chasing you.
  • Use trophallaxis to heal teammates by feeding them.
  • A deep trench with a removable bridge outside the nest stops most ant raids and traps Assassin Bugs in a tight space where they are easy to finish off.
07

Assassin Bug tactics

Warn

The Assassin Bug costs 2,000 leaves or 499 Robux and plays entirely differently from termite castes. Its camouflage activates by holding R while standing on termite-made dirt, and it lasts up to 8 minutes. A fully charged attack venom-stalls a target's health regeneration for one minute. Red Driver Ants will chase and attack an Assassin Bug even while it is cloaked.

Worth watching out for
Never team with a mound this is against the game's rules and can result in a punishment if reported.
Target workers and nymphs while cloaked; only go for soldiers when they are isolated.
Watch your stamina constantly at zero stamina your walk speed drops, which makes escaping a Major Soldier very difficult.
When your cloak bar drops below 25%, move away from the nest before it expires so you are not spotted uncloaked.
A fully charged bite envenoms the target, stopping their health regen for one minute.
Two Assassin Bugs working together are much more effective one draws a soldier's attention while the other stays cloaked for the finishing blow.

Upgrades worth buying

Table

Upgrades are bought from the shop and are specific to each caste — buying one for your current caste does not carry over if you switch. Terraformer is only available to workers and royals.

Common questions

FAQ

Why is my nymph not turning into a worker?

The bar at the bottom of the screen needs to reach the first icon before you can press it. You can fill it faster by pressing E when another player offers you food, or tapping the eat button on mobile. Once the bar hits the icon, press it and then press 'Play as' to complete the change.

What is the fastest way to earn 150 leaves as a new player?

Place fungus combs whenever your fungus bar is full — each one gives 10 leaves. After placing, tend the same comb with T for 2 leaves per tend, and feed any nymphs nearby for 1 leaf each time.

My fungus comb turned grey. What do I do?

A grey comb is producing less food and will eventually disappear. Press T on PC or the feed button on mobile to tend it using your fungus bar. Workers, queens, kings, and alates can all tend combs, but only workers earn leaves for doing it.

The queen got kicked from the game — why?

Queens have five minutes to lay at least one egg, and if they fail the game removes them. There is also a cap of three queens per colony.

Can I team with a mound as an Assassin Bug?

No — teaming with any mound as an Assassin Bug is against the game's rules. If another player reports you for it, you can face a punishment.
