First steps when you load in

Step

In short Joining the group and learning your soul abilities before you go exploring sets you up early on.

Two quick actions before anything else will set you up for a smoother run. The game offers in-game bonuses to players who join the official group, and those bonuses are free, so there is no reason to skip it.

Join the group do this before you start playing so the in-game bonuses apply straight away.
Check your soul abilities these are the core tools you will use in combat and while exploring.
Head into the overworld start moving through areas and look for objects you can interact with.
Stay active for one hour this earns you the A Soul's Journey badge.

EXP and Kromer boosts

Check

In short Playing on weekends stacks all available boosts together.

A +50% EXP bonus and a Kromer Boost run all the time, and Passive Kromer kicks in on top of that every Friday through Sunday.

The +50% EXP bonus runs permanently.
Passive Kromer activates automatically every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Plan longer sessions for the weekend all boosts overlap then.

Hidden objects across the world

Tips

In short Four hidden objects are scattered through the game world, and each one rewards a badge when found.

Finding all four is a good reason to push into unfamiliar areas.

Tips worth knowing

The Golden Catalyst is hidden somewhere in the game world and grants its own badge on discovery.
The Snowman is another findable object with a dedicated badge attached to it.
The Cup Statue is described as an abandoned, broken relic.
The Radiant SAVE Point glows.
W.D. Gaster appears as a rare encounter in the Void Room.

In short Eight souls are available year-round, and two more appear only during the April Fools event.

Each soul you obtain unlocks a badge. The two event souls are gone once the April Fools period ends.

Soul ability: The core power your character uses during combat and exploration throughout the game world.
Kromer Boost: A bonus that accelerates how quickly you earn Kromer and EXP, active alongside the standing +50% EXP bonus.
Passive Kromer: An automatic bonus that runs every Friday through Sunday without you needing to do anything to activate it.
Void Room: A location in the game where W.D. Gaster can appear as a rare encounter.
Radiant SAVE Point: A glowing hidden object in the game world that rewards a badge when discovered.
W.D. Gaster: A rare encounter that can happen in the Void Room, granting a dedicated badge when it occurs.

Do I have to join the group to play?

You can play without joining, but the group gives you in-game bonuses.

What is the fastest way to level up?

Schedule your longer play sessions for Friday through Sunday, when Passive Kromer stacks on top of the permanent +50% EXP bonus and the Kromer Boost.

Can I still get Jerry and Nubert's souls?

Both souls are only available during the April Fools event. Once that event ends, there is no way to obtain them until the event returns.

How do I encounter W.D. Gaster?

Head to the Void Room and the encounter can happen there. It is rare.
