About

Overview

Deepwoken is a hardcore adventure RPG on Roblox where your character is permanently deleted when you die under the wrong conditions. This guide covers how death and the Depths work, how to build your character, and how to survive long enough to make progress.

How death works — and what it actually costs you

Step
In short You have two lives before permanent loss, so understanding each death state is the most important thing you can learn.

Every death drops roughly half your notes and any unequipped items, though Soulbound items stay with you no matter what. After your first death, your health bar becomes stained, which means a second death will send you to the Depths rather than simply respawning you. To clear the stain you must level up your Power by spending Investment Points.

  1. First death your health bar becomes stained and you lose roughly half your notes and loose items.
  2. Clear the stain spend your Investment Points to level up Power before dying again.
  3. Second death while stained you are sent to the First Layer of the Depths, called Scyphozia.
  4. Death inside the Depths your character is permanently wiped.
  5. Voidzone or Voidsea death these ignore your stain and send you straight to the Depths regardless, but give double EXP as a trade-off.
  6. Hollow Echo Modifier carrying this sends you to the Depths on any death, skipping the two-life system entirely.

Surviving the First Layer

Check
In short The Depths is far more dangerous than the overworld, so arrive with a plan rather than scrambling once you are there.

Scyphozia is built around the ruins of an old civilization called Celtor and is filled with enemies that can end your character for good. The map contains large void gaps — falling into one while your health is below your Void Threshold wipes your character instantly.

  • Watch the corroded section on your health bar that marks your Void Threshold, and dropping below it near a void gap is fatal.
  • If you are below Power 3, the Void Threshold is 0%, meaning jumping into the void sends you to the Second Layer at any health level.
  • If you are not in combat, are in PvE combat, or are in PvP combat while being below Power 16, your Void Threshold is 50% of your maximum health.
  • If you are in PvP combat while being Power 16 or higher, this threshold gradually increases, up to 75% of your maximum health at Power 20.
  • Head toward the Cathedral of the Interstice in the center of the City of the Drowned it holds the main exit.

Two ways out of the Depths

Table
In short The Cathedral trial is the repeatable exit; the wish options each work only once per character.

There are two routes out of the First Layer. The Cathedral of the Interstice trial scales to your Power level. The wish routes let you skip the trial entirely but each can only be used once on a given character.

Cathedral of the Intersticeenter through the West or East gate of the City of the Drowned, take the elevator, and fight a trial monster tuned to your Power level.
Shrine of Yun'Shul wishrequires a Resonance and an eligible wish; speak to Yun'Shul and choose the escape wish; usable once per character.
Idol of Yun'Shul relicselect the release wish on the Idol; does not require a Resonance or a prior wish from the Shrine; also usable once per character.
After both wish options are spentthe Cathedral trial is the only remaining exit, no exceptions.

Building your character

Tips
In short Your choices at character creation set the direction of your entire build, so try different combinations across multiple characters rather than stressing over a single perfect setup.

Deepwoken lets you shape every aspect of your character through origins, attributes, modifiers, and upgrades. Hundreds of abilities exist, and the combination you pick determines your combat range, speed, and available options mid-fight.

Tips worth knowing
  • Your origin sets your starting background and initial stats.
  • Attributes steer your combat style and determine which abilities are available to you.
  • Modifiers grant special properties — the Hollow Echo Modifier, for example, fundamentally changes how death works.
  • Upgrades are the final layer of tuning once the rest of your build is in place.
05

Combat habits worth building early

Warn
In short Player combat is the single most dangerous activity in the game.

The combat system rewards observation over button-mashing. Parrying and dodging take a few sessions to feel natural, and that learning curve is intentional.

Worth watching out for
Do not pick fights with other players unless you are confident in your skill level PvP is the fastest way to lose a character.
Logging off when you spot a hostile player is an option.
Never ignore your Blood, Hunger, and Thirst bars during any fight or exploration session.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I get my character back after it is wiped?

No. Permanent character loss is a core part of how the game is designed. You start a new character and apply what you learned from the previous run.

What is the safest way out of the Depths if I have never done the trial before?

If your character has a Resonance and you have not used the wish yet, speaking to the Shrine of Yun'Shul and choosing the escape wish lets you skip the trial entirely. If you have an Idol of Yun'Shul relic and have not used it, that works too and does not even require a Resonance. Once both options are spent, the Cathedral of the Interstice trial is the only exit.

Why does my health bar look corrupted when I am in the Depths?

That corroded section marks your Void Threshold. As long as your current health stays above it, falling into a void gap sends you to the Second Layer rather than wiping your character. Drop below it near a gap and your character is gone permanently.

How do I clear my stained health bar?

Spend your Investment Points to increase your Power level. This cleanses the stain and restores your second life.
