How a match works

Summary
In short Every match follows the same structure: spend mana to place and upgrade heroes, survive the waves, then beat the boss.

Once you enter a map, players vote on a difficulty. Easy runs 25 waves, Medium runs 35, and Hard goes to 40. During each wave you spend mana to place heroes and upgrade them along the path. A strong boss arrives on the final wave, and defeating it earns you coins, seasonal currency during events, and sometimes a new tower.

Difficulty Easy is 25 waves, Medium is 35, Hard is 40.
Mana the resource you spend to place and upgrade heroes each wave.
Boss appears on the final wave and must be defeated to win.
Coins earned when the boss is beaten.
Seasonal currency awarded during events alongside normal coins.
New tower some map victories unlock an additional hero.

Raid maps and fence management

Warn
In short On raid maps, keeping your fences upgraded on time is just as important as your heroes, because enemies will break through outdated fences.

Raid maps have no fixed enemy path. Instead, the map is grid-like and you use buildables — including traps, lamps, and fences — to control where enemies go. Enemies calculate the shortest route to the base at the start of every round and reroute around fences. If a fence is too low a level for the current wave, enemies will break through it rather than go around. Intermissions appear at set waves to remind you to upgrade.

Worth watching out for
On Easy, upgrade fences to level 2 before Wave 14 and level 3 before Wave 21.
On Medium, reach level 2 before Wave 14, level 3 before Wave 20, and level 4 before Wave 27.
On Hard, hit level 2 before Wave 14, level 3 before Wave 21, level 4 before Wave 27, and level 5 before Wave 33.
Stronger enemies target weaker walls if it is a shorter route than going around.
Walls placed during a round do not affect enemies already on the move; the new path applies next round.
Each player can place at most 3 of the invulnerable tower wall, but there is no cap on regular wall pieces.
There is a 50 placement limit on spikes.

Leveling up and unlocking bosses

Check
In short Beating boss variants and reaching level milestones are the two main ways the game tracks long-term progress.

The game tracks your level separately from map clears, with milestones at levels 15, 30, 70, and 100. Beating the Slime King unlocks it as a playable tower.

  • Reach level 15, 30, 70, and 100 for badge milestones.
  • Beat the Slime King to unlock it as a tower, then work toward the Fire and Inferno versions.
  • Clear the Skeleton King before attempting the Petrified and Molten variants.
  • Defeat the Mega Sentry to open the path toward Ultra and Chaos Sentry.
  • Complete Special Quests for story-based rewards separate from standard map clears.
  • Check the Badges menu to see which boss chains and level targets you still have ahead.

Skins, stickers, and codes

Tips
In short Cosmetics change how your heroes look but have no effect on how strong they are in a match.

Skins alter a hero's appearance only. Stickers are collectible items. Modifiers add special effects or extra challenge to a run but are separate from cosmetics. The Grass Crate is a current way to get skins, and the Quarry map has its own set of skins to collect. The Sandbox Gamepass gives access to a Test Map. Nineteen working redeem codes are tracked by this site — check the codes section of this page to find them.

Tips worth knowing
  • Skins are purely visual and never affect a hero's stats.
  • Modifiers are separate from skins and can change how a match plays out.
  • The Grass Crate and Quarry-specific skins are the newest cosmetic sources as of the current update.
  • Redeem codes grant free cosmetics — use the codes section of this page.
  • The Sandbox Gamepass unlocks the Test Map.

Common questions

FAQ

Where do I find the tutorial?

If you are a new player it pops up automatically when you join. Otherwise, open the Help screen and look for the Game Tutorial section, or go into the Badges menu and start it from there. Finishing it earns a badge.

How do I unlock new heroes?

Heroes come from three places: shops, quests, and beating specific maps. Some bosses hand you their own form as a tower when you defeat them. Check the Badges menu to see which boss defeats still have a tower reward waiting.

Why do enemies keep breaking through my fences on raid maps?

Enemies break through fences that are a lower level than what the current wave requires. Each difficulty has set waves where you need to upgrade — for example, all difficulties require a level 2 fence before Wave 14. Watch for the intermission warnings in the match and upgrade before those wave numbers arrive.

Do skins make my heroes stronger?

No. Skins only change how a hero looks and have no effect on any stat.
