SCP: Roleplay puts you inside a secret research facility where you play as a prisoner, scientist, guard, or one of several other teams — each with a completely different job and playstyle. This guide covers how to pick a starting role, what each team actually does, how to handle SCP breaches and facility threats, and what to check when you get stuck.
In shortEvery team plays differently, so knowing what each one does before you pick saves a lot of confusion.
When you first load in, you choose a team before spawning into the facility. Each team has its own tutorial cutscene that explains its purpose; you can skip it, but watching it at least once helps. The game unlocks more teams as you progress, so you start with a smaller pool.
Class-D
prisoner who can stay and be tested or riot and escape with the Chaos Insurgency
Scientist
researches and studies SCPs using Class-D personnel as test subjects, spawns without weapons
Security Department
guards the Class-D cells, escorts Class-D during tests, and protects the facility
Mobile Task Force
handles SCP recontainment, posts at the Class-D Cells, and stops raids and riots
Intelligence Agency
gathers information and monitors critical locations like Chaos Insurgency entrances
Chaos Insurgency
hostile to the entire Foundation, frees Class-D prisoners, and causes destruction on-site
In shortFoundation-side players need to coordinate across several threats at once to hold the facility together.
Foundation teams win by keeping SCPs contained, stopping Class-D riots, and preventing the Chaos Insurgency from taking over the facility. The strategies below apply to any Foundation member, not just combat roles. Camping rule violations aside, knowing common defensive positions — such as the Sector 3 C4 vent, the C4 vent near Science Department spawn, and the Transformer room vent — helps you anticipate where Insurgency players will appear.
Tips worth knowing
Keep Security Department watching the Class-D Cells at all times to catch escapes before they become riots
Have Intelligence Agency and Internal Security Department sweep critical locations regularly, especially Chaos Insurgency entry points
Call in Mobile Task Force or Rapid Response Team when a riot is already in progress
Patrol all facility pathways after a mass raid, using combative personnel, to clear out anyone who slipped through
Use flanking with Rapid Response Team when enemies are holding a tight position — attack from the sides or rear rather than straight on
Internal Security Department should use their rogue detector actively, since rogue personnel inside the Foundation are a separate threat from the Insurgency

In shortEvery SCP type needs a slightly different approach, so knowing the method before you engage saves lives.
When an SCP breaks containment, Mobile Task Force is primarily responsible for recontainment, but any player can assist. There are two general methods: luring the SCP back to its chamber, or holding the left mouse button for five seconds on specific SCPs. Luring requires you to get the SCP behind you and lead it toward its cell, and the timing rules change depending on which containment chamber type is involved.
Check the SCPfor SCP-096 and SCP-173, hold left click for five seconds to recontain directly
Get behindfor lure-based recontainment, position yourself so the SCP is following you, then walk toward its cell
Fire-room chambers (like SCP-457's)you have seven seconds to lead the SCP to the corner and three seconds to exit before the chamber closes
House-style chambers (like SCP-049's and SCP-023's)lure the SCP inside, then climb to the roof or make the SCP stuck near the doghouse before leaving

Playing as Class-D and the Chaos Insurgency
Summary
In shortPrisoner-side players have two clear paths: cooperate with the Foundation or fight alongside the Chaos Insurgency.
Class-D are the only team allied with the Chaos Insurgency. If you play Class-D, you can choose to comply with tests and interviews run by the Science and Administrative Departments, or you can riot and attempt to escape. The Chaos Insurgency exists to raid the facility, kill Foundation personnel, and free Class-D players for their own purposes. Both sides offer a very different experience from Foundation play.
Cooperative Class-D assists with Scientific Department tests and Administrative Department interviews
Rioting Class-D fights against the Foundation and attempts to escape alongside Chaos Insurgency raiders
Chaos Insurgency goal cause maximum disruption, eliminate Foundation staff, and liberate prisoners
Insurgency entry points common approach routes include the Sector 3 C4 vent, the C4 vent near Science Department spawn, and the Transformer room vent

Common questions
FAQ
How does the team tutorial work?
The first time you select a team, a cutscene plays with text explaining that team's role and purpose, advancing automatically every seven to eight seconds. You can skip it if you want to spawn straight away, but each team has unique text so it is worth watching once per team. After the tutorial ends, you spawn as that team normally.
Can I switch to a different team after starting as Class-D?
The game unlocks more teams as you progress, so continuing to play opens up options beyond the starting roster. Class-D is one of the entry-level roles, and advancing through the game is how you gain access to additional teams.
What is the fastest way to recontain SCP-096 or SCP-173?
For those two specifically, hold the left mouse button for five seconds while near them — this triggers recontainment directly without needing to lure them back to their chamber. For most other SCPs you will need to get them to follow you and walk them back to their cell instead.
Where does the Chaos Insurgency usually enter the facility?
Insurgency players commonly use the Sector 3 C4 vent, the C4 vent near the Science Department spawn, and the Transformer room vent. Foundation players who know these spots can set up defensive positions at those chokepoints to intercept raiders as they emerge.
