Choosing your first creature

Step
In short Kaluaka is the safest starting pick because it handles both land and water without any major weaknesses.

When you launch the game, a tutorial walks you through the basics and lets you pick from a small set of starting creatures. Kaluaka is worth choosing here — it moves well on land and in water, so you won't get stuck if you wander into either environment. Work through the whole tutorial before heading into the open world; it teaches the hunger, thirst, and growth cycle you'll rely on for the entire game. Pressing K at any time shows you the full control list if you need a reminder.

  1. Pick Kaluaka an all-rounder that swims and walks equally well, ideal before you know the map
  2. Finish the tutorial it walks you through managing Hunger, Thirst, and the growth cycle so you aren't guessing later
  3. Press H this sniff action shows you where nearby food is, which stops early starvation
  4. Check the mission screen completing early missions earns Shooms, the in-game currency you'll need for almost everything
  5. Head toward Flower Cove it's a calmer area where you can practice movement without running into dangerous players or creatures

The survival cycle: hunger, thirst, and growth

Check
In short Keeping Hunger and Thirst above zero is your constant job, and reaching Age 100 unlocks your creature's full power.

Hunger and Thirst are always ticking down, so you need a routine for refilling both. Carnivores eat from carcasses or hunted prey; herbivores eat nearby plants. Water is trickier — drinking from a low-quality water source can make your creature sick, so learn which water spots are clean early on. Growth happens automatically over time, and once your creature hits Age 100 it becomes an Adult with all abilities unlocked. After reaching Adult, you can keep growing toward Elder for even more strength.

  • Hunger bar is above zero if it hits empty, your creature dies
  • Thirst bar is above zero the same rule applies
  • Water source is clean low-quality water risks illness on top of thirst
  • Age is tracked under 100 means reduced abilities, so avoid fights until you're there
  • Missions are checked regularly they refresh on a timer and are the most reliable way to earn Shooms

When you keep dying: things to check

Warn
In short Most losing streaks come down to fighting before Adult stage, being in the wrong biome for your creature type, or going it alone.

Getting wiped out repeatedly is frustrating, but the cause is almost always one of a few fixable things. Creatures under Age 100 are significantly weaker than Adults, and fighting in a biome your creature isn't suited for makes things worse — water types struggle on land, and land types are vulnerable in deep water. Going solo is also a major risk; joining a pack with other players raises your survival odds dramatically.

Worth watching out for
You're under Age 100 abilities aren't fully unlocked yet, so avoid fights and focus on eating and hiding
Your creature type doesn't match the terrain flying, swimming, and land creatures each have biomes where they're at a disadvantage
You aren't using your abilities combat abilities like breath attacks exist for a reason; use them actively
You're fighting alone group up with other players before engaging tougher enemies or Wardens
You have no escape route if an enemy outmatches you, running is the right call every time
05

Wardens and boss fights

Tips
In short Wardens are biome bosses that require a group, but they drop rewards you can't get elsewhere.

Wardens are especially powerful creatures that appear near altars in each biome. A solo Adult creature has very little chance against one. Coordinate with packmates before engaging, and make sure everyone involved is at or past Age 100. One recently added creature, Acona, is obtained specifically through a boss fight, so tackling these encounters isn't just for bragging rights.

Tips worth knowing
  • Never fight a Warden alone — they're designed for group play and will end a solo creature quickly
  • Make sure your whole group is at Adult stage before the attempt
  • Acona is currently only obtainable as a boss fight reward, making Warden runs worth the effort
06

Shooms, trading, and free-to-play progress

Table
In short Free players can collect a wide range of creatures through missions and trading; Robux mainly speeds things up or unlocks limited options.

Shooms are earned by completing missions, and they're your main tool for pulling from the gacha or trading with other players. Before spending Shooms on the gacha, consider whether the creature you want is already in circulation — trading directly with someone who has it can be faster and more reliable. Robux opens up some exclusive creatures and items like Revive Tokens and growth tokens, but the core survival and group-play experience costs nothing extra.

Free playmissions and trades supply Shooms steadily; gacha and trading cover most creatures
Robux spendingunlocks limited creatures and convenience items like Revive Tokens and growth tokens
Missions vs. gachamissions are the most consistent Shooms source; gacha is random
Direct trade vs. gachatrading with another player for a specific creature is often faster than pulling for it
High-rarity creaturesthese hold trade value well and can be used to get other things you want
07

Redeem codes

Step
In short Codes are easy to use but expire fast, so enter them as soon as you find one.

The developers release promo codes from time to time, and each one can only be used once per account. The input field is found in the in-game menu. Accuracy matters — one wrong character makes the code fail.

  1. Open the in-game menu find the code entry field inside it
  2. Type the code exactly capital letters, lowercase letters, and any numbers must match perfectly
  3. Redeem it quickly codes have expiry dates and use limits, and they stop working without warning

Account and online safety

Warn
In short Scams and cheat tools are the fastest ways to lose an account you've spent time building.

Because Creatures of Sonaria involves trading real in-game value, it attracts scammers. Offers of free Robux or free rare creatures from strangers are almost always attempts to steal your account. Cheat clients and exploit tools will get your account banned. Roblox's built-in report system exists for situations like these — use it.

Worth watching out for
Never share your password or personal details with any other player
Ignore anyone offering free Robux or rare creatures out of nowhere these are scams
Do not download or use cheat tools they result in a permanent account ban
Don't click unfamiliar links sent in chat or by message
Use Roblox's official report feature if someone tries to scam or harass you

Common questions

FAQ

Which creature should I pick at the start?

Kaluaka is the best choice for new players because it handles both land and water without a serious weakness in either.

What happens when my creature dies?

If your active creature dies, you can switch to another one you have stored and keep playing. If a stored creature dies, you need a Revive Token to bring it back. Staying cautious while under Age 100 is the best way to avoid losing a creature you've put time into.

Can I enjoy the game without spending Robux?

Yes — the survival gameplay, pack system, and most creatures are all accessible through Shooms earned from missions and trades. Robux mainly unlocks a subset of limited creatures and convenience items like Revive Tokens. Building up Shooms steadily through missions and making fair trades will get you a long way as a free player.

How do I earn Shooms reliably?

Completing missions is the most consistent method; the mission list refreshes on a timer, so checking it regularly and finishing whatever is available adds up fast. Trading creatures with other players is another way to move Shooms around, especially once you have high-demand creatures to offer.

Which area is safest for beginners?

Flower Cove is a good starting area — it's relatively calm and has food sources that herbivores can use easily. The Central Rockfaces area draws a lot of players and tends to be more dangerous, so it's worth avoiding until your creature is fully grown and you're confident in a fight.
