About

Overview

Hunting Season is an open-world hunting simulator where you track wildlife, take clean shots, and bring your trophies back to your lodge. This guide covers the basics of the hunt, how the day-and-night cycle shapes your sessions, how to handle the creatures that come out after dark, and what to aim for as you build your collection.

Animal ratings and what they mean

Table
In short Animals come in tiers from Bronze to Mythical, and rarer harvests carry more prestige for your lodge collection.

Each animal you harvest is rated. The rating reflects how rare that particular animal is, and rarer trophies are more valuable for your collection. Ruby and Mythical animals are the hardest to come by.

Bronzethe entry-level harvest rating
Silvera step up from Bronze
Golda meaningful prize
Diamondrare and a strong addition to any lodge
Rubydescribed by the developers as incredibly rare
Mythicalthe top tier; developers call this insane to achieve

02

Day and night timing

Summary
In short Night lasts more than three times longer than day.

Knowing exactly how long each phase lasts helps you plan. Daytime is short. Once night hits, the threat level rises sharply.

Daytime 180 seconds, or 3 minutes
Nighttime 600 seconds, or 10 minutes
Portable floodlight and bear traps do not respawn after pickup, so grab them first in a new server
Radio Tower indestructible and a reliable shelter after dark
03

Surviving the night creatures

Tips
In short Knowing how each enemy behaves is the difference between surviving the night and losing everything you prepared during the day.

Two types of enemy appear at night: the Walkers and ZERO. Walkers are large spider-like creatures that spawn from the Mysterious Pit in the northwest corner of the map, near the Church, Campsite Alpha, the Ranch, and the Homestead. ZERO spawns at the lake shore near Warehouse Beta roughly 20 to 35 seconds after night begins, signalled by the message 'SOMETHING ELSE HAS AWOKEN'.

Tips worth knowing
  • Both Walkers and ZERO target the nearest player — hiding spots do not work because proximity is all that matters to them.
  • After a Walker kills a player, it enters a passive state for about 20 seconds before its war cry ends and it starts attacking again — use that window to deal damage, but back off the moment it begins moving its legs.
  • ZERO skips the war cry entirely, so do not expect a safe window after it eliminates someone.
  • If a Walker jumps and you lose track of it, equip the tracker while running so you know if it has landed in front of you.
  • ZERO takes damage from an initial torch or grenade hit but is immune to ongoing fire and electricity effects.
  • Never try to fight a Walker with only a torch.
04

Map knowledge worth having early

Check
In short Knowing a few key locations before you need them saves you from being caught unprepared as night closes in.

The map has fixed spawn points for both friendly and hostile things.

  • Walker spawn the Mysterious Pit, northwest corner, near the Church and Campsite Alpha.
  • ZERO spawn the lake shore near Warehouse Beta.
  • Radio Tower indestructible; a safe point once night starts.
  • Floodlight and bear traps limited, non-respawning items; claim them at the start of a new server.
  • Most buildings can be destroyed by Walkers and ZERO, so a solid-looking structure is not automatically safe.

Lodge, trophies, and long-term goals

Summary
In short Your lodge grows with your collection, so every trophy you bring in is a step toward a better showcase.

The hunting lodge is where your trophies go on display. Rarer animals produce more valuable trophies, and your lodge can be upgraded as your collection grows. The Severnaya Tayga map adds Tiger, Gray Wolf, and Wild Boar to the animals you can hunt.

Common questions

FAQ

What is the main thing to do in Hunting Season?

You track and hunt wildlife across open-world maps, then display your harvested animals as trophies in your lodge. Rarer animals produce more valuable trophies, and your lodge can be upgraded as your collection grows.

How do I survive the night without dying?

Get to the Radio Tower before night starts, since it cannot be destroyed. Both Walkers and ZERO go for the nearest player, so movement and positioning matter more than any hiding spot. Watch for the war cry after a Walker kills someone — that is your window to attack it before it re-engages.

Why did a Walker appear right where I was hiding?

Walkers ignore light, sound, and cover entirely — they simply move toward whichever player is closest to them. No hiding spot prevents them from walking straight to you.
