The rules of eight-ball
SummaryEach player is assigned a colour — solids (balls 1–7) or stripes (balls 9–15) — based on which type drops first after the opening shot. Your job is to pocket all of your own colour, then finish with the 8-ball. Pocket the 8-ball too early and you lose the game on the spot.
- Cue ball the white ball you always shoot with
- Solids balls 1 through 7, one player's target group
- Stripes balls 9 through 15, the other player's target group
- 8-ball the black ball, sunk last to win
- Foul pocketing the cue ball or sinking an opponent's ball hands the turn to your opponent
- Pocket one of the holes around the table where balls must fall
Taking your first shots
StepEach turn starts with you lining up the cue against the white cue ball. You control both the direction of the shot and how hard you hit. Pocket one of your own balls and you keep shooting; commit a foul or sink an opponent's ball and the turn passes to them.
- Select the cue ball tap or drag it to bring up the shooting controls
- Aim the cue drag across the screen to rotate the cue to your chosen angle
- Set the power the further you drag, the harder the shot will be
- Fire release or press the shoot button to take the shot
- Check the result if one of your colour drops, you shoot again; a foul or opponent's ball ends your turn
Shooting better and winning more
TipsOnce the controls feel natural, small adjustments to your technique will start winning you more matches. Picture the straight line from the cue ball to your target and then on to the pocket before every shot.
- Imagine a straight line connecting the cue ball, your target ball, and the pocket before you commit to a shot
- Use less power than you think you need — a softer hit keeps other balls from scattering into bad positions
- When a ball has no clear direct path, aim for a cushion bounce off the side wall instead
- Before you pocket your last coloured ball, check that the 8-ball is sitting somewhere you can actually reach

Common questions
FAQHow do I know which balls are mine?
Your colour — solids or stripes — is decided by whichever type first drops into a pocket after the opening shot. From that moment on, only balls of your assigned type count toward your progress.
What happens if I sink the cue ball?
Pocketing the cue ball is a foul, so your turn ends immediately and your opponent gains the advantage.
Do I need to spend Robux to get new cues?
No — cues can be unlocked by winning matches, so consistent play will grow your collection for free. The in-store purchase option is there if you want a specific cue sooner rather than later.
Why did I lose even though I sank the 8-ball?
The 8-ball must be the very last ball you pocket — if any of your own coloured balls are still on the table when you sink it, you lose. Make sure all your balls are cleared first.
