01

Getting started from an empty plot

Step
In short Your first job is to place buildings and connect them with roads so citizens can move around.

You begin with nothing — no buildings, no roads, just land. Choose from over 100 unique buildings and start laying out your city. Citizens will appear and begin driving to destinations once roads and buildings are in place.

  1. Browse over 100 unique buildings and choose one to place.
  2. Connect buildings with roads citizens travel by car, so roads between buildings let them get where they are going.
  3. Watch your citizens interact with their world as they drive to their destinations.

02

Reading what your citizens need

Tips
In short Watching citizen behavior is the main way to know which buildings to add next.

Citizens interact with the buildings you place and drive through the roads you build. Keeping citizens happy is what drives the city forward.

Tips worth knowing
  • Watch which direction citizens are trying to travel — it hints at what kind of building they are looking for.
  • Think about whether residents have somewhere to live, somewhere to work, and somewhere to spend time.
  • If citizens seem inactive, consider whether a key type of facility such as a hospital or commercial building is missing.
03

Paint tool and terrain tool

Table
In short The paint tool changes how your city looks, while the terrain tool changes the shape of the land itself.

Two customization tools let you make your city unlike anyone else's.

Paint toolchanges the color of buildings and ground so you can personalize your city.
Terrain toolraises or lowers land to create giant mountains and giant chasms across your city.
Combined effectmixing both tools means no two cities will ever look the same.
04

Playing with friends

Check
In short Up to six players can build in the same room, so split into separate rooms if your group is larger.

Mini Cities supports multiplayer city-building in a shared room. The room has a hard cap, so plan ahead if you have a bigger group.

  • Confirm your group has six or fewer players before everyone joins the same room.
  • If your group is larger than six, have some players create a separate room and build there.
