What each of the five powers does

Table

Mermaid Testing gives every player the same five powers from the beginning, and none of them require spending anything to unlock.

Waterclick the ocean to form a bubble, click again to throw it; hitting a player transforms them into their merperson form.
Iceclick any water bubble to freeze it; a frozen water bubble that hits a player deals damage.
Steamclick a water bubble to boil it; you can also click on merpeople above water to dry them off faster.
Jellyclick the ocean to form a platform you can stand and travel on.
Diverun toward the water and jump to move through it quickly.

Combining powers effectively

Tips

Each power is useful on its own, but several of them are designed to work in sequence. Creating a water bubble and then immediately freezing it with ice is the core offensive combo — the frozen bubble deals damage on contact. Steam gives you a second option for what to do with a bubble, and is also useful for drying out merpeople above water.

Tips worth knowing
  • Form a water bubble before switching to ice so you can freeze it the moment it appears.
  • Use steam on a bubble when you want a different effect instead of a freeze.
  • Remember that steam can also be clicked on merpeople above water to dry them off faster.
  • Build a jelly platform to reach higher ground or to get somewhere quickly.
  • Use dive by running toward water and jumping to move away quickly.

Fixing common power problems

Check

Each power requires you to click a specific thing — the ocean, a bubble, or a player — so clicking in the wrong place simply does nothing.

  • Water bubble won't launch confirm you clicked the ocean first to form it, then clicked again to throw it.
  • Ice isn't doing anything make sure you're clicking directly on an existing water bubble, not on the water or open space.
  • Steam has no effect check that you're clicking on a water bubble or on a merperson who is above the water.
  • Jelly platform won't appear you need to click on the ocean surface.
  • Dive isn't working you must be running toward the water when you jump.
