Noise — using it for and against you
TipsGranny reacts to every sound you make, so every footstep and dropped item is a decision. Used carelessly, noise gets you caught; used deliberately, it pulls Granny to exactly where you want her so the rest of the team can move freely.
- Drop items on beds or on the backyard grass rather than hard floors — soft surfaces do not alert Granny.
- Avoid creaking floor tiles whenever possible; on harder difficulty settings they are harder to dodge, so plan your path.
- Drop an item in one part of the house on purpose to draw Granny there, then use the time she spends investigating to explore elsewhere.
- Close every door behind you — Granny takes about one and a half seconds to open one, and those seconds are your escape window.
- If you need to move fast after making noise, drop items toward the Main Door area so teammates on the Upper Floor get a little extra time.
Room-by-room danger levels
TableNot every room carries the same risk. Granny almost never wanders into the Special Room and rarely goes to the Basement or Attic on her own, while she patrols the Ground Floor and Upper Floor constantly.
| Attic | lower danger; Granny rarely goes here on her own |
| Basement | lower danger but risky to enter carelessly; use the Girder Trick to distract her when you need to |
| Garage | relatively isolated; Granny wanders here infrequently |
| Ground Floor | high danger; Granny patrols here most |
| Walk-In Closet | high danger; Granny wanders through it frequently and can see you from two doorways |
Three distraction tricks worth learning
StepThese are specific techniques the community has worked out. Each one relies on Granny being pulled toward a noise or a direction, then moving while her back is turned.
- Timed Window Trick make noise in the Backyard, wait for Granny to come unlock the door, then jump through the window behind her; go around the table's long side or crouch under it to avoid the creaking floor.
- Girder Trick (safe version) knock the Girder in the Basement, then crouch under the Basement Workbench; wait there until you see Granny go down the stairs, then leave while she is heading the wrong way.
- Girder Trick (opposite version) knock the Girder toward the stairs, stand between the Safe and the wall, and as Granny runs downstairs head toward the Metal Panel and go up; keep moving along her axis rather than standing still.
- Secret Area Trick make noise on the lower edge of the stairs in the Secret Area Bottom Floor, then go up one flight and wait behind the next flight while she investigates below.
Hiding spots — when to use them and when not to
WarnChests, cabinets, under beds, and the car all feel safe, but they trap you. Tunnels are the exception — they are safer and easier to exit quickly.

Common questions
FAQIs the enemy role something I choose?
There is a badge for becoming an enemy for the first time, which means it is a role the game assigns or offers at some point. Playing it out successfully, by stopping all players from escaping, earns you a second badge.
How do I get the Old Radio badge?
You need to hear the radio all the way through in a single round. The badge description makes clear you only get one chance per round, so do not interrupt it once it starts.
