Prior Extinction is a hardcore dinosaur survival game set in a prehistoric open world where you pick a dinosaur and fight to stay alive against hunger, thirst, and other players. The game is in public alpha, so updates keep arriving.
In shortPick the dinosaur type that matches how you want to play, not just which one sounds coolest.
Herbivores and carnivores play very differently, so your choice shapes the whole experience. Small herbivores are the easiest starting point because food is straightforward to find and you can practice the basics without constant pressure. Large carnivores hit the hardest but demand real skill to feed and survive in.
Small herbivore
easiest start; plants are plentiful and you can focus on learning controls
Large herbivore
tough once grown, especially dangerous when moving with other players
Small carnivore
fast and agile, good at one-on-one chasing and escaping
Large carnivore
highest attack power in the game, but feeding is hard and mistakes are costly
In shortKeeping both gauges healthy is the single most important habit in this game.
Your dinosaur has separate hunger and thirst gauges. If either one hits zero, your health starts draining. Growing larger makes you a harder target, so eating and drinking consistently is also how you get stronger over time.
Tips worth knowing
Never let hunger or thirst drop to zero — health damage follows immediately
Herbivores should graze regularly; carnivores need to actively hunt prey to stay fed
A larger body makes you less appealing to attackers, so growth is its own form of defence
Rocks, trees, and thick undergrowth let you hide while you eat, buying safe growth time
Avoid fighting bigger dinosaurs — the size gap matters, and retreating is always an option

In shortMost repeated deaths come down to two things: empty gauges and bad positioning.
Before blaming bad luck, run through this list. Most survival problems trace back to neglected hunger or thirst, moving into areas where your dinosaur is too small to compete, or standing in open ground where you are easy to spot.
Hunger and thirst gauges are above halfif not, fix that before anything else
Your dinosaur is grown enough for the area you are entering
You are using terrain for cover rather than standing in the open
You are not fighting dinosaurs noticeably larger than you
You are on a less crowded server where PvP pressure is lower
05
Playing with others and roleplay servers
Tips
In shortTeaming up with friends is one of the most effective ways to survive, but server choice changes the whole atmosphere.
Prior Extinction supports both competitive PvP and roleplay styles. You run into other players no matter what, but which server you join shapes how intense that contact gets.
Tips worth knowing
Join the same server as a friend and move as a group
Roleplay servers often have their own community rules, so read the chat when you join
Low-population servers give you more breathing room to grow at your own pace
PvP is part of the game everywhere, so expect to encounter hostile players regardless of server type
06
Account and in-game safety
Warn
In shortPvP and open-world competition can create friction, so keep both your account and your behaviour in check.
Prior Extinction has blood and violence in its content, which fits the hardcore survival setting. Keep the following in mind every session.
Worth watching out for
Never share your password or personal details with anyone in-game
Ignore offers that seem too good to be truepromises of items in exchange for friendship or account access are scams
Using cheat tools or exploits risks a permanent account ban
Keep chat respectful; harassment breaks the platform rules regardless of what happened in a match
07
Redeem codes
Step
In shortCodes are free and expire, so use them as soon as you find them.
The developers release codes through official announcements that can unlock free rewards. Each code works once per account and stops working after it expires, so there is no reason to wait.
Copy the code exactlycapitalisation matters and a single wrong character causes an error
Each code only pays out once, so do not try the same one twice
An early public release of the game that is still incomplete and will keep receiving updates and changes.
PvP
Player versus Player — combat between human-controlled dinosaurs rather than against the environment.
Hunger gauge
The on-screen meter showing how full your dinosaur is; reaching zero causes your health to drain.
Thirst gauge
The on-screen meter showing your dinosaur's water level; it works the same way as the hunger gauge.
Herbivore
A plant-eating dinosaur type that finds food easily and is recommended for new players.
Carnivore
A meat-eating dinosaur type with high attack power that requires active hunting to stay fed.
Open world
A large, freely explorable map — here it is a prehistoric landscape.
Roleplay server
A server where players act within the game's prehistoric world and may follow community-agreed rules on behaviour.
Growth system
The mechanic by which eating and surviving over time causes your dinosaur to grow larger and become more capable.
Common questions
FAQ
What happens to my progress when I die?
Dying does not wipe your dinosaur's species data entirely, but your growth can be set back. You respawn near the starting area.
Can I play solo or do I need a group?
Solo play works fine — surviving and growing on your own is a core part of the experience. Because PvP is always active, you will meet other players, but picking a quieter server reduces that pressure.
Which dinosaur is the strongest overall?
Large carnivores have the highest attack capability, but they are the hardest to keep alive due to demanding food needs.
Can my friends and I play together?
Yes — joining the same server puts you in the same world. Moving as a group is effective, especially in PvP situations.
