Character roles and what they do
TableEach of the 15 characters fills a distinct role. Ranged characters like Hyperlaser deal heavy damage from the backline but are slow and vulnerable up close. Melee characters like Biograft hit hard in short bursts but have low health and need to manage their heat meter to avoid being left exposed.
| Ranged attacker | stays back, deals consistent damage across the map, needs teammates in front. |
| Melee fighter | gets close to pressure targets, high damage but low survivability. |
Playing Hyperlaser
WarnHyperlaser is a backline ranged character who deals high damage at long distances using his Hyper Ray and Pierce Ray. His movement options are limited, so he depends on his team holding the frontline. His Phinisher, Eviscerating Ray, can instantly eliminate up to three enemies in a row if all shots connect — the wind-up sound alerts every player on the map, so enemies will immediately look for cover or try to stun him before he fires. Destroying a Boombox or a Vine Staff sprout with Eviscerating Ray returns a shot, extending the phinisher's potential.
Playing Biograft
TipsBiograft is a melee character who attacks fast and puts intense pressure on individual targets. The tradeoff is the lowest health pool in the roster. Biograft's passive speeds up attack rate when using their main weapon, but using it also builds a heat meter. If the heat meter fills completely, Biograft is left open and vulnerable, so you cannot just spam attacks without thinking.
- Monitor the heat meter during extended fights and ease off before it maxes out.
Teamwork habits that actually win matches
TipsBecause matches are four versus four, a single player going alone reduces the effective team size to three. Ranged characters like Hyperlaser need melee characters in front drawing attention.
- Combine phinishers when possible — Eviscerating Ray, for example, is much easier to land when an ally's ability is holding enemies in place.

Common questions
FAQHow many characters and maps does the game have?
There are 15 playable characters and more than 25 maps.
What happens if I get stunned while firing Eviscerating Ray?
The shot is cancelled and will not go out, but it is not consumed either, so you still have that charge available. You cannot earn new phinisher points while the phinisher's effects are still running.
Can I play Hyperlaser in close-range situations?
Yes, but situations where it makes sense include helping your team contest a point, supporting an established frontline, or as a last resort against melee attackers.
Is PHIGHTING! finished?
No — the game is in alpha, and the developers have stated that many elements are subject to change and there are no fixed deadlines for updates.
